PURPOSE
6.1 The purpose of the Steel Toe Safety Boots policy is to provide all City employees with a
safe and healthy work environment.
6.2 BACKGROUND
Risk Management pioneered the use of the back support belts, which has proven to
minimize work-related back injuries. In order to further enhance the loss control/safety
program for the City of Grapevine, Risk Management, in cooperation with the Workers'
Compensation loss control engineer and the liability insurance carrier, have implemented a
steel toe safety boot program.
POLICY
6.3 SAFETY BOOTS
All workers deemed to be at risk with an exposure to foot injuries are required to wear
approved steel toe leather work boots while engaged in work-related activities. Footwear
should meet or exceed ANSI-C41-1991 or Z41.1-1991 requirements. The boot may utilize
a non-metallic toe cap as long as it meets the rating specifications.
To offset any financial hardship, the City of Grapevine will compensate the employees in
the following manner:
6.3.1 The City will reimburse the full cost of the boots up to$100.00. This money will
be reimbursed directly to the employee from petty cash.
6.3.2 The employee will complete a Safety Boot Reimbursement form and submit it
along with the original receipt to their supervisor. The supervisor will complete
their portion of the Safety Boot Reimbursement form for approval. Then the
employee can submit the reimbursement form and original receipt to Utility
Billing for reimbursement from the petty cash fund.
6.3.3 Safety Boot Reimbursement Form is located on the Employee Intranet under
the Forms section.
