AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AMENDING
CHAPTER 18 , SECTION 18-89 RELATING TO
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLIC SAFETY
APPLICANTS; AMENDING CHAPTER 18 , SECTION
18-111 RELATING TO THE PROBATIONARY
PERIOD FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES; PROVIDING
A SEVERABILITY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS :
Section 1 . That Chapter 18 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Grapevine, Texas relating to Personnel is hereby amended
in the following particulars, and that no other existing sec-
tions, subsections, articles, paragraphs, sentences, phrases or
words shall be amended, but shall be and are hereby ratified,
verified, and affirmed:
A. That Section 18-89, Subsection (b) of the Code of
Ordinances shall be amended to read as follows :
Section 18-89 . Mandatory requirements for public safety
applicants.
" (b) The City of Grapevine requires that law enforce-
ment personnel be at least twenty-one (21) years of

B. That Section 18-111 of the Code of Ordinances shall be
�N� amended to read as follows :
"Section 18-111 . Probationary period.
Every person initially appointed to or promoted in the
city service under a permanent appointment shall be
required to successfully complete a probationary period
of six (6) months, except for police and fire personnel,
who shall be required to successfully complete a proba-
tionary period of twelve (12) months. "
Section 2 . If any section, article, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase, or word in this ordinance, or application thereto
any person or circumstance, is held invalid or unconstitutional
by a Court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not
affect the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and the City Council hereby declares it would have passed such
remaining portions of the ordinance despite such invalidity,
which remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 3 . The fact that the present ordinances and regu-
�" lations of the City of Grapevine, Texas, are inadequate to
properly safeguard the health, safety, morals, peace, and general
welfare of the inhabitants of the City of Grapevine, Texas,
creates an emergency for the immediate preservation of the public
business, property, health, safety, and general welfare of the
public, which requires that this ordinance become effective from
and after the date of its passage, and it is accordingly so
ordained.
