AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE,
TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE GRAPEVINE
CODE RELATING TO ADMINISTRATION BY THE
ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION TO BE NUMBERED
SECTION 2-5 AND ENTITLED IDENTIFICATION OF
"�'"" CITY VEHICLES AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING
FOR THE MARKING OF CITY-OWNED MOTOR VEHICLES
AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE
,�,, �MPTION OF CERTAIN VEHICLES FROM SUCH
REQUIREMENTS; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY
CLAUSE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Article 6701m-2, as amended, Vernon' s Texas
Civil $tatutes, requires that each motor vehicle and piece of
heavy equipment owned by a city shall be identified and marked
as city-owned in the manner prescribed therein unless otherwise
approved by the governing body of such city; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Grapevine, Texas
(the "City" ) desires to implement the requirements and
provisions of Article 6701m-2.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE TEXAS :
Section 1 . That all of the above premises are found to
be true and correct and are incorporated into the body of this
ordinance as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2 . That Chapter 2 of the Grapevine Code
�,,, relating to Administration is hereby amended by the addition of
a new section to be numbered Section 2-5 and entitled
Tdentification of City Vehicles and Heavy Equipment which
section shall read as follows :
"Section 2-5 . Identification of Citv Vehicles
and HeaW Equipment.
(a) Each motor vehicle and piece of heavy
equipment owned by the City shall have printed
upon each side of such motor vehicle or piece
of heavy equipment the words "City of
Grapevine, Texas" followed in letters that are
plainly legible at a distance of not less than
one hundred (100) feet the title of the
department or official having custody of such
motor vehicle or piece of heavy equipment .
The color of such inscription shall be in a
color sufficiently different from the body of
the vehicle or piece of heavy equipment so
that the lettering shall be plainly legible.
The City official having control of the motor
"��'� vehicle or piece of heavy equipment shall be
responsible for insuring the motor vehicle or
piece of heavy equipment is properly marked.

(b) The provisions of Section 2-5(a) hereof
shall not apply to automobiles used by the
City' s police department when used for the
purpose of performing official duties . "
Section 3 . That all other existing sections,
subsections, paragraphs, sentences, definitions, pi�rases and
words of the Grapevine Code are not amended but shall remain
intact and are hereby ratified, verified and affirmed.

Section 4 . If any section, article, paragraph,
sentence, clause, phrase or word in this ordinance, or
application thereto any person or circumstances is held invalid
or unco�stitutional by a CouL � �l ��1��rc�Ci1� jurisdiction, such
holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
of this ordinance; and the City Council hereby declares it
would have passed such remaining portions of the ordinance
despite such invalidity, which remaining portions shall remain
in full force and effect .
` ` Section 5 . The fact that the present ordinances and
regulations of the City are inadeguate to properly safeguard
the hea].th, safety, morals, peace and general welfare of the
� �� inhabitants of the City, creates an emergency for the immediate
preservation of the public business, property, health, safety
and general welfare of the public which requires that this
ordinance become effective from and after the date of its
passage and it is accordingly so ordained.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS this 6th day of October , 1987 .
