AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GRAPE—
VINE, TEXAS, SPECIFYING THE REASON—
ABLE AND PRUDENT SPEED FOR PUBLIC
STREETS AND ALLEYS VdITHIN THE CITY;
REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES;
PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY OF FINE NOT
TO EXCEED TWO HUNDRED ($200. 00) DOL—
LARS FOR EACH OFFENSE; PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING
AN EP�IERGENCY
P10W, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS;
Section l. Speed Limits on Certain Public Streets.
Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation here-
tofore made as authorized by the provisions of Section 169 ,
V.T.C.S. , 6701d, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways,
the following prima facie speed limits hereafter indicated for
vehicles are hereby determined and declared to be reasonable
and safe; and such speed limits are hereby fixed at the rate
of speed indicated for vehicles traveling upon the named public
streets and highways, or parts thereof, of the City, said speed
limit to be in force and effect unless otherwise limited as
prescrihed by the provisions of this ordinance. The streets
and highways hereby regulated, and the maximum prima facie
speed limits thereof, are as follows :
Streets & Location Speed Limit
On Mustang Drive 1500 feet East from 20 m.p.h. on school
the intersection of Timberline Drive days from 7 :00 a.m.
to 9 :00 a.m. and
from 2 : 00 p.m. to
4 :00 p.m.
On Timberline Drive from the inter- 20 m.p.h. on school
section of Tanglewood to the inter- days from 7 :00 a.m.
section of Mustang Drive to 9 :00 a.m. and
from 2 :00 p.m. to
4 : 00 p.m.
Section 2. That the City Manager, or his agent, is hereby
authorized to have speed limit signs erected, constructed, and
placed at such points along said highways, streets or alleys
or portions thereof under construction, maintenance or repair
so that travelers will be reasonably notified of said speed.
Section 3. That all ordinances or any parts thereof in
conflict with the terms of this ordinance shall be and hereby
are deemed repealed and of no force or effect provided, how-
ever, that the ordinance or ordinances under which the cases
currently filed and pending in the Municipal Court of the City
of Grapevine, Texas, shall be deemed repealed only when all
such cases filed and pending under such ordinance or ordinances
have been disposed of by a final conviction or a finding not
guilty of nolo contendere, or dismissal.
Section 4. Any person, firm, or corporation violating any
of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon conviction in the Municipal Court, shall
be fined in an amount not to exceed the sum of Two Hundred
Dollars ($200. 00) for each offense.
Section 5. If any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause ,
phrase, or provisions of this ordinance shall be judged invalid
or unconstitutional, the same shall not affect the validity of
this ordinance as a whole or any portion thereof other than that
portion so decided to be invalid or unconstitutional.
Section 6. The fact that the traffic regulations of the
City of Grapevine do not adequately regulate the traffic within
the City creates an urgency and an emergency and the preserva-
tion of the public health, safety, and welfare requires that
this ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage and the publication of the caption of said ordinance as
the law and the City Charter in such cases provides.
