AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE,
TEXAS, PROVIDING FOR AN ADDITIONAL PEN-
ALTY FOR DELINQUENT TAXES; PROVIDING A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Section 33 . 07 of the Property Tax Code provides
that an additional penalty of not more than fifteen percent
(150) of the amount of taxes, penalty, and interest due may
be added to the amount of taxes and penalty and interest on
taxes that remain delinquent on July 1 of the year in which
they become delinquent if the taxing unit has contracted
with an attorney to collect delinquent taxes; and
tiVHEREAS, in order to defray the costs of collection of
such delinquent taxes, it is advantageous to the taxpayers
of the City of Grapevine to adopt the provisions of Section
33.07 of the Property Tax Code;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1 . That the provisions of Section 33 . 07 , Pro-
perty Tax Code, State of Texas , be, and they are hereby
adopted so that hereafter an additional penalty if fifteen
percent (150) of the amount of delinquent taxes and penalty
and interest on delinquent taxes, be imposed and collected
on taxes becoming delinquent after January 1 , 1982 .
Section 2 . Severability. If any section, sentence,
phrase, word, paragraph, or provision of this ordinance or
the application of that section, sentence, phrase, word,
paragraph, or provision to any person, situation or circum-
stances is for any reason adjudged invalid, the adjudication
shall not affect any other section, sentence, phrase, word,
paragraph, or provision of this ordinance or the application
of any other section, sentence, phrase, word, paragraph, or
provision to any other person, situation, or circumstances,
nor shall such adjudication affect any other section, sen-
tence, phrase, word, paragraph, or provision of the Grape-
vine City Code. The City Council declares that it would
have adopted the valid portions and applications of this
ordinance without the invalid part, and to this end the
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3. Emergenc�. The fact that the present ordi-
nances and regulations of the City of Grapevine , Texas , are
inadequate to properly safeguard the health, safety, morals,
peace and general welfare of the inhabitants of the City of
Grapevine, Texas, creates an emergency for the immediate
preservation of public business, property, health, safety,
and general welfare of the public, which requires that this
ordinance shall become effective from and after the date of
its passage, and it is accordingly so ordained.
