AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 7-171 CF
THE GRAPEVINE CITY CODE BY PROVIDING
FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE 1979 EDITION
OF THE ICBO PLUMBING CODE PUBLISHED BY
THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BUILD-
ING OFFICIALS; PROVIDING FOR AMEND-
MENTS TO SAID CODE; PROVIDING FOR THE
REPEAL OF CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; PRO-
VIDING A PENALTY; PROVIDING A SEVER-
ABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. Adoption. Section 7-171 of the Grape-
vine City Code (Plumbing Code Adopted) is hereby amended
to read as follows :
There is hereby adopted by the City of Grape-
vine Texas for the purpose of prescribing
regulations, governing conditions hazardous
to life and property that certain 1979 edition
of the ICBO Plumbing Code published by the
International Conference of Building Officials;
and it is hereby incorporated herein as if
fully set out in length herein and from the
date on which this ordinance shall take effect,
the provisions thereof shall be controlling
within the limits of the City of Grapevine with
certain exceptions as noted below.
Section 2 . Amendments. Section 7-172 of the Grape-
vine City Code (Amendments) is hereby amended to read as
follows:
Section 1604-2 (b) of the 1979 edition of the
ICBO Plumbing Code is hereby amended to include
the following:
(a) For the safety of the City potable
water supply all new water service
connections, and any re-connects,
will require a backflow preventor
device to the customer' s side of
the meter, at customer ' s expense.
(b) All commercial and industrial cus-
tomers shall have a double-check
valve (low hazard) installed on new
water service connections at custom-
er' s expense.
(c) All commercial and industrial cus-
tomers dealing with acids or chem-
icals that a�e not drainable to the
City sewer shall have a (high hazard)
double-check valve installed at the
meter, at customer ' s expense.
Section 3. Repeal. This ordinance repeals those pro-
visions , and only those provisions , of all ordinances in
conflict with the provisions hereof.
Section 4. Penalty. A person, firm or corporation
violating the terms and provisions of this ordinance shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be fined not
less than One Dollar ($1. 00) nor more than Two �undred
Dollars ($200. 00) ; and each day each violation shall con-
tinue shall be a separate offense.
Section 5. Severability. Provisions of this ordinance
shall be, and they are hereby, declared to be severable; and
should any portion of it be declared to be invalid for any
reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such holding
shall not affect the remaining portions thereof.
Section 6 . Emergency. The fact that the enactment of
a Plumbing Code is necessary to preserve the public business ,
peace, health, safety and general welfare, creates an urgen-
cy and emergency in the immediate preservation of the same,
and requires that this ordinance shall take effect imme-
diately from and after its passage; and it is accordingly so
ordained.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 19th day of May, 1981.
