HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 07 - Arpco Building11I EM # 7 MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER BA MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 4, 2012 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR EXTERIOR RENOVATION OF THE ARPCO BUILDING RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of a contract with MP Custom Fab for exterior renovation of the Arpco Building to resemble the historic Grapevine Ice Company Building in the amount of $65,975. FUNDING SOURCE: Funding is available in account 179 -79173 Grapevine Ice House Renovation Capital Project Fund. BACKGROUND: Request for proposals were issued at the request of Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Staff for renovation of the exterior of the Arpco Building at 205 West Hudgins Street. The building exterior would be renovated to resemble the Historic Grapevine Ice Company Building and serve as the museum for the Grapevine Historical Society. Proposal documents prepared by Hennessey Engineering Company, Inc. were issued by staff to eight contractors. Two contractors submitted incomplete bids. Funds for the project are available through the Capital Project Fund. The MP Custom Fab price includes galvanized metal framing, exterior wood siding, soffit, painting, windows, doors, waterproofing, insurance requirements and rental equipment. This contract provides the Grapevine Ice Company facade and exterior walls of the building. (See attachment A). Interior demolition is now complete and interior floor, walls, ceiling, lighting and HVAC will begin in February and be completed by April 301h. Projected opening is mid summer 2013.
