This letter confirms on November 4, 2020 the Historic Preservation Commission staff
approved with conditions #CA20-105 for the property addressed 402 South Barton Street,
legally described as Block 3, Lot 9 less W144', City of Grapevine Texas, to the Grapevine
Historic Preservation Ordinance 91-73 (Appendix G — Grapevine Code of Ordinances), as
amended for the following items:
1. Demolish the existing 2,040 square foot block and brick Information Technology
Building, built as a Natural Gas Service Office;
2. Demolish the existing parking lot on the property;
as per the attached plan with the conditions a demolition permit is obtained from the
Building Department.
An approved Certificate of Appropriateness is not an approved building permit; a
building permit is / is not required. Contact the City of Grapevine's Building
Department at 817.410.3165 for fees and information regarding permits.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval with conditions of Certificate of Appropriateness #CA20-105
for the property located at 402 South Barton Street, legally described as Block 3, Lot 9 less
W144', City of Grapevine, Texas, to the Grapevine Historic Preservation Ordinance 91-73
(Appendix G — Grapevine Code of Ordinances), as amended for the following items:
1. Demolish the existing 2,040 square foot block and brick Information Technology
Building, built as a Natural Gas Service Office;
2. Demolish the existing parking lot on the property;
as per the attached plan with the conditions a demolition permit is obtained from the Building
Department.
BACKGROUND, -
Staff recommends approval of #CA20-105 for demolition of the building and parking lot at 402
South Barton Street for the following reasons:
1. The property is zoned to Government Use (GU);
2. The simple utilitarian building was constructed to serve as a Natural Gas Service Office
for Grapevine; it currently has abandoned gas lines around and underneath it;
3. The building is vacant and not re -useable by the City for current needs;
4. Removal of the building and existing parking lot would allow for a reconstructed parking
area on the site to provide required parking for the Grapevine Parks and Recreation's
Community Meeting Facility, now undergoing renovation to the west (formerly the
Grapevine Senior Center);
5. There is no Designation of Merit for the building on the Grapevine Historic
Preservation department's twelve point Designation of Merit criteria evaluation.
Due to these reasons, it is determined that the future use of the property is in support of the
Grapevine Park and Recreation's Community Meeting Facility as a required parking area.
