A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE,
�ua� TEXAS, APPROVING THE OFFICIAL MASTER PLAN
SUBMITTED BY THE GRAPEVINE SESQUICEN-
TENNIAL COMMITTEE FOR THE COMMEMORATION
OF THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE OF
TEXAS
WHEREAS, the State of Texas will be conducting the Texas
Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1986 , said Celebration is to be
held in certain designated Texas communities; and
WHEREAS, a Grapevine Sesquicentennial Committee has been
formed to foster and promote preparations and to coordinate
community-wide activities for this event; and
WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Grapevine, Texas,
supports the objectives, purposes, and goals of the Committee as
detailed in the Master Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS :
Section 1 . That the Master Plan submitted by the Grapevine
�`� Sesquicentennial Committee, attached hereto and made a part
hereof as Exhibit "A" , is officially approved and becomes the

official Master Plan for the celebration of the 1986 Texas
Sesquicentennial in and by the citizens of Grapevine, Texas.

DeveloFxnnent Board, the Canmunity Education P,dvisory Council, and a member
of the North Fort Worth Historical Society.

PROJECTS
NEW YEARS EVE PAI�I'Y: A party to celebrate the arrival of the
Sesq_uicentennial year of 1986. The party is planned to be held in an
historic home in Grapevine. Light refreshanents will Y�e served and each
cca�unittee member will speak on various projects planned by the Grapevine
Sesc1uicentennial Camnittee. Local civic and community leaders will be
invited and encouraged to proirote our c�nity's Sesquicentennial
activities.
T�.S INDEPII�1DII�tCE DAY PARADE: A downtcx+m parade celebrating the inde-
pendence of Texas. Floats representing the Alamo, San Jacinto, Te��cas
Statehood, the Texas Longhorn, and various events in Grapevine's history
���^ will be encouraged. Riding Clubs, school rodeo clubs, historical reen-
actn�uent groups, historical societies, and ethnic groups will be invited
to participate. A prominent celebrity will be chosen to be the Parade
�"� Marshal. The parade wi1.l take place on the afternoon of March 2, 1986,
at 2:OOPM.
TEXAS SESQUICEN`i'ENNIAL PRODUCTIONS: This will be produced by Group W
Cable of Grapevine and will be shown on Local Origination Channel Six
throughout 1985 and 1986. Included in these productions will be "The
Legend of Sam Bass", a doctunentary on the life and t�mes of the notorious
Texas outlaw who roatr�ed North Texas in the 1870's; and "Grapevine - A
Look Back", the stozy of early Grapevine. Other programs are planned for
the future. In all a total of 15 programs will be produced.
ESTABLISH OUR OWN HISTORICAL MARI�RS: Grapevine's history is full of
colorful people and events that make it a unique city in the heart of the
metroplex. Working crith the historical society our c�ittee will
establish a marker program, describing the people, buildings, and events
that wr�uld be of interest to new residents and visitors to our canmunity.
The marker� will be placed on buildings or on stands in appropriate
locations. Dedication of each marker will be a special event celebrated
throughout 1986.

COrM4UNITY PLAY: David Clark and Ed Vacula of the Grapevine
Sesquicentennial Players are writing a play utilizing a historical event
in Grapevine's history, the Grapevine Cantaloupe Festival. The play will
Le performeci during Grapevine's Fourth of July Celebration. July 3rd and
5th are tentative dates for the play.
V�1I�ING AND DRIVING TOURS OF GRAPEVINE: Grapevine has many points of
interest to visitors. A walking tour ot our historic downtown area with
its colorful comn�rcial and residential architecture is planned.
Grapevine also has nx�iy other areas of interest which are spread through-
out the city, so a driving tour ot the city will also be developed by our
canunittee.

CON�'1UNITY IDUCATION COURSE: The Grapevine Sesquicenterinial Committee will
sponsor a canarnuiity Education course on the history of Texas, the histary
of Tarrant County, and the history of Grapevine. The course caill include
material prepared by Texas history teachers, Tarrant County histarians,
and local citizens interested in history. The cananittee will assist
Lynn F�ggers, Director of Ccxrmunity Education for the
Grapevine/Colleyville Independent School District, in preparing the
course for the Spring and Fall Sessions of Ca�u?tunity Fducation Courses.
PRESERVATION AND FOSSIBLE UTILIZATION OF HISTORIC BUILDINGS ON CLUCK
P120PER'I'Y: Our Texas Sesquicenteruieal Cc�nrtnittee plans to encourage the
presezvation of two log cabins, said to be two of the aldest standing
�'°� structures ir. Grapevine. The ca�nittee will throughly investigate the
feas�bility of moving and restoring one or both of these structures. A
�,� possible site for the log cabins is Heritage Park located in central
Grapevine. We will confer with the Grapevine Historical Society as to
the possible use for these buildings once they are relocated and re-
stored.
PLANTING OF BLLIEBONN�rS: The Grapevi.ne Garden Club began a program of
bluebonnet planting in the fall of 1984. The seeds were spread by club
member� in praminent locations along the right of way near Hwy. 114 und
Main St. intersection, at the entry to our city. The club plans to get
plantings s-carted along the three majar highways that traverse the city
by 1986.
TF�I�S WAGON TRAIN, JUNE 1986: The Cammittee is planning a co�mnunity-wide
celebration during the time the Texas Wagon Train will be visiting
Grapevine in June of 1986. The campsite will be at Grapevi.ne High School
and surrounding property (Jan France toured our facilities Nov�nber 12,
1984) . We will incozporate several activities involving the Texas Wagon
Train Participants with our Annual Fourth of July Festival. Scme
possible events being considered are; a Flag Presentation Ceremony by
me�nbers of the Texas Wagon Train Association, a Heritage Celebration, a
�'� cca�¢nunity sponsored supper for the Texas Wagon Train participants, and a
ccannunity wide barn dance.
Our co�anittee will co�nunicate with the Texas Wagon Train Asso-
ciation ancl will endeavor to make their stay in Grapevine as ccgnfortable
and pleasant as possible. We will also endeavor to involve as much of
our canarnuzity as pcssi.ble in the preparation of this historic visit by
the Te�as V�'agon Train in 1986.
FOtTt�l'fi OF JULY EXTRP,VAGANZA: The Texas Wagon Train Association`s arrival
on June 29th, 1986, wili forntially kick off our July Fourth �travaganza
ior the city of Grapevine. Several activities will be planned en the
night of June 29th which will allaw our citizens a chance to forn�ally

view the various wagons in the association. A Fourth of July Patriotic
Chorus Concert, perfornned by our local c�ununity chorus, will be held on
June 30th. As a part of this years festival, arts & crafts booths will
be on exhi.bit, carnival rides will be available for the youngsters, and a
huge patriotic firew�rks display will be viewed in Mustang Stadi�n on
July 4th. Various other activities will be scheduled throughout the
festival which will help present our past heritage to our local citizen-

Ff�NTIER DAYS: A whole w�ek of western heritage activities starting
August 25th and ending Sept��ber lst, 1986. The activities will include:
a trail ride, starting at the site of the Chisholm Trail (near I-35, west
�"� of Grapevine) and ending in Grapevine; a c�nunity barbecue on Saturday,
August 30th; and a rodeo on Saturday and Sunday at the new rodeo arena to
be built for the Sesquicentennial. Local merchants will be encouraged
to join in the Frontier Days activities by having special pramotions and
sales. The Grapevine Sesquicentennial Cc.�anittee is in the process of
getting an arena built for the Frontier Days Celebration. The arena will
serve the city ot Grapevine and surrounding cca�anunities as a focal point
for horse shows, livestock events, youth rodeos, and playdays for years
to come.
RESTORATIGN AND UTILIZATICN OF THE JOE WILLIS HOUSE: This home built in
1901 will be restored with the help of the wamen's organizations and the
GraFevine Sesquicentennial Ccmanittee. It is presently owned by C. L.
Chambers and potentially eligi.ble for the National Register. Mr.
Chambers would like to donate the property and house to the Historical
Society. Once it is fully restored it will be used as a meeting center
for the w�en's groups and the Grapevine Sesquicentennial Cc�mittee,
providing them with a unique and special place to hold their meetings.

The Grapevine Sesquicentennial Comnittee w�uld appreciate the use of
the official logo on any official stationa��, brochures, maps, program
covers, notepaper, inforn�ational pamphlets, and banners prepared for use
in connection with any Sesquientennial events sponsored by this
Committee.
The Conmittee would also like to use the logo as emblems on the
uniforn�s of the Grapevine Police and Fire Depart�nts. This wz�uld be
done in order to promote fihe Sesquicentennial year through city
employees.
Please accept the assurance of this Comriittee that any uses not
mentioned here that may be considered in the future will be done so with
