AGGREGATE ASPHALT ROAD SURFACING MATERIALS
(HOT MIX)

Funds for this purchase are available in account 174- 43301 - 090 -000 (Street
Maintenance /Capital Replacement/Transportation Infrastructure Maintenance) in the
amount of $500,000.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken !in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid was advertised in the Fort
Worth Star Telegram on October 22, 2009 and October 29, 2009. The contract was for
an initial one -year period with four, one -year renewal options. This approval request is
for the third of four, one -year renewal periods. Bids were issued to four vendors with all
four vendors responding.
The purpose of this bid was to establish fixed annual pricing for the purchase of asphalt
road surfacing products to be ordered and used by the Public Works Street Department.
Bids were submitted for four items. Of the vendors that met the specifications, Reynolds
Asphalt was lowest on two items, JLB Contracting and Lane Construction Corporation
were low on the others. To insure the availability of supply, Council awarded primary
contracts to the lowest bids received and secondary contracts to the second lowest bids
received.
Staff recommends approval.
