AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE OF' THE
CITY OF GRAPEVINE, CHAPTER 7, RELATING TO
THE NUMBERING OF HOUSES BY AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANRGER OR HIS DULY DESIGNRTED AGENT,
THE DISCRETION TO NUMBER HOUSES BY A
DIFFERENT METHOD; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY
�'°'' CLAUSE AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
��„ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL:
Section 1. That Chapter 7, Sections 8-7-2 and 8-7-3
of the City Code relating to the numbering of houses are
amended to read as follows :
"8-7-2-Prefix to Street Names : The letters N,E, S, -
and W, indicating the four (4) cardinal points of the
compass , shall be added, respectiuely as a prefix to the
names of all streets , avenues and thoroughfares in the City,
as their direction from the base line may indicate, except
that the City Manager or his duly designated agent or employee
may dispense with this requirement, at his discretion on
cul-de-sacs and irregular streets when in his judgement the
prefix is not needed or helpful. "
"8-7-3-Numbering from Base Lines : All houses shall be
numbered from the base line of the street on which they are
located, a number shall be assigned each twenty five feet
(25� ) , out such street, in regular order, the even numbers
to be on the right side of the street , proceeding from the
base lines , and the odd numbers to be on the left side of
the street, except that the City Manager, or his duly de-
signated employee or agent, may permit and allow a different
�,,, system on cul-de-sac or other irregular streets when in his
judgement the alternative method is acceptable. "
Section 2. Savings and Severability Clause. If any
section, article, paragraph, sentence, clause , phrase or word
in this ordinance, or application thereto to any person or
circumstances is held invalid or unconstitutional by a Court
of competent jurisdiction such holding shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of the ordinance; and the
City Council hereby declares it would have passed such remain-
ing portions of the ordinance despite such invalidity, which
remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 3. Emergency. The fact that no present ordi-
nances of the City of Grapevine regulating numbering of houses ,
creates an urgency; and an emergenGy and in the preservation
of the public health, safety and welfare requires that this
ordinance shall take eff�ct immediately from and after its
passage and the publication of the caption as the law and
charter in such cases provides .
