AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A MANDATORY RETIREMENT
AGE OF SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS FOR ALL CITY EMPLOYEES

IS GRANTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY
CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Each and every employee of the City of Grapevine,
Texas, who shall hereafter attain the age of sixty-five (65) years shall
automatically be retired immediately from the employment of said City
'�° ' unless permission is granted to continue employment in accordance with
this ordinance.
SECTION 2. If an employee who has attained the age of sixty-
five (65) years, or is about to attain said age, desires to continue his
employment with the City of Grapevine, Texas, he may make an annual
application to the City Manager or his designated representative for
permission to so continue said employment, upon making each application,
said employee must submit to a physical examination by a physician designated
� x by the �ity Manager. Each physical examination will be paid for by the
City of Grapevine.

SECTION 3. Permission to continue employment past the age
of sixty-five (65) years, can only be granted by the City Council for one
year at a time and only after their consideration of: (1) the employee's
application; (2) the City Managers recommendation; and (3) the examining
physician's report as to the physical condition of said employee.
SECTION 4. The terms and conditions of this ordinance
shall be deemed to be severable and if the validity of any portion of thi s
ordinance shall be declared to be invalid, the same shall not affect the
� `' remaining portions of this ordinance.

SECTION 5. The fact that the present ordinances and regulations
regarding personnel policies are inadequate to praperly safeguard the general
welfare of the inhabitants of the City creates an emergency for the immediate
preservation of the public business which requires that this ordinance shall
become effective from and after the date of its final passage, as provided
by the Charter of the City, and it is accordingly so ordained.
