ORDINANCE NO. 71-29
AN ORDINANCE LIMITING THE NU_MBER OF CATS
AND DOGS ALLOWED IN THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR
THE EXCEPTION FOR THE LIMITATION OF DOGS AND
CATS ON PREMISES USED FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSES;
PROHIBITING THE KEEPING OF ��1ILD ANIMALS ON
PREMISES USED FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSES EXCEPT
UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES; PROVIDING A
5AVINGS CLAUSE ; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, THAT:
PART I
That the Code of the City of Grapevine, Texas , is
hereby amended by adding a new Section SIXTEEN, SEVENTEEN AND
EIGHTEEN to TITLE SIX, CHAPTER FOUR of said Code, which shall
hereafter read as follows :
6-4-16 DOGS AND CATS - NUMBER ALLOWED
It shall be unla�aful to keep or harbor more than
four (4) dogs or cats or combination of both, three (3) months of
age or older on any premises used for residential purposes. The
owners of dogs and/or cats shall have three (3) montizs from the
date of the passage of this Ordinance in which to comply with
these provisions .
6-4-17 DOGS AND CATS - NU_MBER ALLOWED - EXCEPTIONS
Raisers and breeders omf dogs and cats strictly
for a hobby may make application with thh�e City Manager or his
duly delegated employee for permission to keep or harbor more than
four (4) dogs or cats or a combination of both of three (3) months
of age or older. The City Manager or his duly designated employee
shall issue a permit for one (1) year to the applicant upon the
following information being furnished and the listed conditions
being satisfied.
A. The maximum number of cats or dogs to be
kept or housed.
B. The purpose for the keeping or harboring of
the dogs or cats .
C. That the dogs or cats are to be housed in cages
or pens inside a residence or completely enclosed
structure.
D. That the dogs or cats are kept or har�ored so
as to not be a nuisance or detriment to any
adjoining or adjacent neighbors .
E. That the dogs or cats shall not bark or howl
or create noises that cause the peace and quiet
of the neighborhood or the adjacent premises
to be disturbed.
F. The cages or pens are to be maintained in a
sanitary condition so as not to create any
hazards to the general health and welfare of
the community.
The City P��anager or his duly delegated employee
upon being satisfied that the above information has been furnished
and the conditions satisfied, shall issue a permit for one (1)
year to the applicant. This permit may be revoked at any time
upon any of the conditions and requirements being violated.
6-4-18 WILD ANIM�ILS
A. It shall be unlawful to keep or harbor
any wild animal within the City of Grapevine, excepting commercial
establishments dealing in the sale of these animals that have
proper zoning, for such a commercial enterprise and that have
proper facilities for restraint and care of these animals.
B . The Animal Warden and the City T2anager
or his assistant may set up conditions under which it would be
permissible to keep or harbor wild animals in the City of
Grapevine on a temporary basis .
PART II
Any person who violates any of the provisions of this
Section 6-14-16, 6-4-17, or 6-4-18 , shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not to
exceed two hundred dollars ($200 .00) for each offense.

PART III
That if any sec�ion, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause, phrase or word in this Ordinance , or application thereo�
to any person or circumstances is held invalid by any court of
competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not a�fect the validity
af the remaining portians of this Qrdinance, and the City Council
of the City of Grapevine, Texas, hereby declares it would have
enacted such remaining portions despite any such invalidity.
