FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MARCH 2, 2021
SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF PARK EQUIPMENT FOR THE
COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of park equipment for
the Community Outreach Center from The Playground, Shade and
Surfacing Depot, LLC for the Police Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Special Revenue Fund from donations for the
Community Outreach Center for a total amount not to exceed $26,372.
BACKGROUND: The Grapevine Community Outreach Center would like to expand its
useable programming space by having a constructed sun shade structure
built in front of the playground area. There would also be four picnic tables
added, as well as updating the two existing benches, and replacing two
trash cans in order to match the existing outdoor furniture. The sun shade
structure and additional picnic tables will provide additional social
gathering space as well as cover from the sun, since the front of the
playground is not covered by trees. Photos of the equipment are attached.
This purchase is for a 30' X 20' X 10' shade structure with two columns
embedded, four rectangle picnic tables, one double pedestal bench with
back, one pedestal bench with back, two heavy-duty 32-gallon trash cans
with dome lids. The purchase will be made in accordance with an existing
interlocal agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to The
Playground, Shade and Surfacing Depot, LLC. The Police and Purchasing
staff reviewed the contract for departmental specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best product
and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
The cost of the equipment is covered entirely by donations to the
Community Outreach center.
Staff recommends approval.
