HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
BRUNO RUMBELOW,
JANUARY 20, 2015
REJECTION OF BIDS — DENTON CREEK WASTE WATER LIFT
STATION RENOVATION AND RECOATING PROJECT
City Council consider rejecting all bids for the Denton Creek Lift Station Renovation and
Recoating Project, and authorize staff to take any necessary action.
BACKGROUND:
The Denton Creek Lift Station requires rehabilitation including replacement of pump rails,
recoating of the wet well, replacement of old valves and replacement of existing
deteriorated piping.
On November 20, 2014 the City of Grapevine received two base bids as follows:
$ 430,000.00 — Fryer Construction Co.
$ 469,123.00 — Felix Construction Co.*
*The base bid from Felix Construction Co. was missing a required page in the bid form at
the time of bid opening and was rejected as a nonconforming bid.
The base bid from the remaining bidder is higher than expected based upon the costs of
similar projects (Engineer's estimate was $382,750).
Staff and our Consultant will review the project, clarify the bid documents as needed,
interview both bidders to determine why the costs were so much higher than expected and
make modifications to the project to reduce the expected project cost prior to re -bidding the
project.
Staff recommends rejecting all bids.
