HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 17 - Cement TruckMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: APRIL 6, 2021
SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE DIRECT SALE OF SURPLUS PUBLIC WORKS'
VOLUMETRIC SIX YARD CEMENT TRUCK
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of the direct sale of a surplus Public
Works' fleet vehicle, unit 31210 which is a six-yard volumetric cement
truck.
FUNDING SOURCE: This action will no material effect on City funds.
BACKGROUND: The Public Works Department purchased a six-yard Cementech
Volumetric mixer in 2015 and mounted it on an existing refurbished 2001
Freightliner chassis for the sole purpose of providing immediate on -site
concrete for repairs and maintenance in the streets, drainage, parks and
utilities divisions. Although well used, without day to day use this asset
has become challenging to operate and maintain.
The current resale value of the existing Cementech Volumetric Truck (Unit
31210) is estimated at $60,000 - $80,000. This sale will be direct to the
general public by way of advertisement and/or vendor consignment.
Staff's recommendation is to sell this asset and use the proceeds to
purchase a 3 cubic yard drum mixer to be installed on an existing F-750
cab and chassis. Staff expects the new mixer to be considered by the City
Council no later than the May 18th council meeting. The new drum mixer
and installation cost is expected to be less than the resale value of Unit
31210.
Staff recommends approval.
