The following members present to-wit: Janice Cook Chairman Lynda Brown Member Karen Smith Member -Janee Trasler Member Debbie Venable Member S Krishna Shenoy Member i constituting a quorum, with the following member of the City Staff: Ruth Chiego, Library Director. Our City Council Liaison, Darlene Freed, was in attendance. CALL TO ORDER Janice Cook called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. CITIZEN COMMENTS — none MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Motion by Krishna Shenoy, seconded by Lynda Brown, to approve the January 18, 2021 meeting minutes: Ayes: Unanimous Nays: None Library Operations Update The short closure was the only adverse effect on the library operations during the snow event. Eighteen people came to the library warming shelter. Operations are slowly coming back to normal. Printing is up and running. A short program survey was conducted to give an idea of people's expectations. Staff is collecting responses through 5/13. It was sent via email, social media and outreach groups. It was also shared on-site. There was lots of online participation during Spring Break. The library partnered with the Dallas Museum of Art to prepare packages to take home. Patrons could pick up a small canvas and shared and discussed their art on Zoom. Seeds were handed out from the library's first attempt at beginning a community seed library. The baking challenge was a hit. All were low cost/high return engagements. These programs were also linked directly to increases in book circulation on these topics due to the curated book displays available when customers would pick up materials or receive staff assistance. Educational Resources Sixty-three kits made so far and producing more of the popular ones. A 93% checkout of all kits O\Policy Manual0oard Guidelines for Minutes 2013 I is the norm. TLA Conference was virtual this year. It was recorded and the staff could watch it on demand. Some of the staff contributed and Ruth will send links to the Board following the meeting. Outreach U date About 100 people came through on April 7. There were small rotations of people on the bus. They enjoyed Professor Bubbles and G.R.O.W.ver the robot. Upcoming Programs The Library is starting a pilot of a portable audiobook called Playaways. It comes with rechargeable batteries and it geared for ages 6-13. The cost is $50 and it lasts longer than audiobooks. The Esports Academy, made possible through the $75,000 grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is moving along into the bid process phase. Funding is directed at acquiring the equipment and infrastructure to make the project successful. The Academy's mission will be to offer Grapevine residents with limited financial resources, or necessary skills the opportunity to be competitive in the growing field of esports which is rich in scholarship, academic and employment opportunities. The library received nice coverage through the International Society for Technology in Education and Community Impact publications. Read To A Furry Friend is back—This popular program is well-attended. Children can read to a therapy dog which has shown to be very beneficial for reluctant readers, and is enjoyable for all children. Upcoming events April —Yoga and Meditation May-June — Fathers in Literature May — Health Kits and Birding Teens June 5 —The bookmobile will be at Father Son Field Day. There will be a Trail Scavenger Hunt and rock painting for the Parr Park Rock Trail. There will be a display in the library glass cases. Summer Sneak Peeks June 28—July 12 - Big Library Read will be a digital version of book club Knit and Crochet Circle with Marcia — Mondays 6:30 Summer Reading Safari -- May 29 -- July, 31 -- The Friends of the Library funded 100% of the staffs requests. Summer Pop-Up Programs Summer Safari Activity Path will include animal activities. All About Animals. Once a week there will be an animal in the library. Dog Days of Summer will include all kinds of activities. Opt-into notifications, social media and email to cardholders. Discussion/Comments From The Board Ruth would like to include library board photos and profiles on the website. Everyone thought it was a good idea. The board will receive prompts from this via email in early October when the 2 i web site is slated to have an update. When will volunteers be able to return to work in the library? Ruth has a meeting tomorrow with Grace to discuss. There is a plan to begin incorporating shifts for adults as soon as mid-May. The staff has been doing virtual volunteering with the teens. When will donations of books be accepted by the library? Answer was May 1. Janice Cook announced her resignation from the Board. Next Board Meeting The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, ,duly 19, 2021 at 6:30PM. There was no formal action taken. ADJOURNMENT Krishna Shenoy, seconded by Lynda Brown, motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:49 P.M.
