HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Personal Protective EquipmentMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 18, 2021
SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of personal protective
equipment from North America Fire Equipment Company, Inc. (NAFECO)
for the Fire Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Fire Department) for an amount
not to exceed $40,922.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to provide each operational member a lightweight
rescue/wildland coat to wear during non-structural firefighting operations.
These coats will reduce heat stress on our members and save wear and
tear on the structural coats, which cost substantially more to repair and
replace. It will also eliminate the need to keep and replace additional sets
of wildland firefighting coats.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The National Purchasing Partners (NPPGov) as allowed
by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government
Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
NAFECO. The Fire and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for
departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would best meet the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
