DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) Report — Paul W. McCallum
Executive Director Paul W. McCallum reported the 2021 Main Street Fest specific goal planning
began right after the Christmas Capital of Texas event, focusing on the Outdoors and bringing
merchants out into the street; with no carnival or large crowd music scheduled.
The TABC was very committed to provide a format to come outside, to extend their licenses.
Merchants and restauranteurs were happy. Performance groups from the Midwest and Northeast
were happy to find their first paying venue in the last year.
Many merchants claimed their largest sales day, some of whom have been in business over 20
years. Free admission with entrances controlled for alcohol and bag checks. A lot of push back from
some who were not happy with dogs allowed on the grounds, feedback was `No Dogs" for GrapeFest.
The communication was moving towards Grapevine is Open, come help our restaurants. Area service
clubs were included. Some great lessons learned, many liked the middle of street opened up.
GrapeFest (GF) will not be quite as open as MSF 2021 and the carnival will return. GF will have a
smaller percentage of the arts and crafts, food vendors as the restaurants will be out in the street
again as in MSF 2021. The People's Choice Wine Competition will move to the Cotton Belt Railroad
District. The International and State Wines in Liberty Park Plaza and the Champagne Terrace will be
in Weems Alley; tomorrow evening will be the first GF Steering Committee meeting. In response to
the COVID shut down, our 2020 GF chairs had presided over only two events -the 2020 Tennis
Tournament and the dedication of the water sphere; the 2020 chairs will return for GF 2021. This
year's 35th Annual GF will have the dedication of the Peace Circle on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
Five of the bronze figures, representing Sam Houston signing the Peace Treaty with the leaders of
the tribes have been completed with three more near completion, two more to be welded and one
chief in early stages. Member Sue Franks asked how many bronze figures and was answered one for
the leader of each of the ten tribes plus Sam Houston for a total of 11 bronze 1.25 life size statues.
Houston waited here for 12 days to gather the leaders of the 10 tribes to sign the peace treaty.
On the business side, group meetings are really up with Sales booking 22 groups in May, three of the
Sales staff are now on the road. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad is back to pre -pandemic numbers;
Grapevine Mills was reporting numbers up with the biggest obstacle being finding employees. Emily
Henley was recently hired for the communications position, already with great response for the Dairy
Days event by picking up the telephone to reach out to the press and using email to close.
City Council Liaison Update — Council Member Duff O'Dell
Council Liaison O'Dell noted the dedication of the Grapevine Main Plaza and seeing visitors out there
every day. The Mayor has reappointed some Council Liaisons — Duff will be back. She spoke of the

many Council projects opening up with the new park; the ribbon -cutting at the Golf Course Clubhouse
saying the golf course rivaled Cowboys and you do not have to be a golfer, just go by for a drink and
enjoy the breeze; plus, a beautiful Conference Room with views of the Gaylord.
The new Animal Shelter is now open, Hotel Vin & Harvest Hall and the REC's new The Vine
Arts & Events Center; and the Bessie Mitchell House.
Chairman Ratliff added, and the new Fire Stations. The new golf course's clubhouse is named
Persimmons for the persimmon wood (much like maple) used by Byron Nelson, he designed our
course and loved all Grapevine, hitting the first ball at the course.
Treasurer and Calendar Committee member Balla Wright asked about doing the GHF 2022 Calendar,
she would like for the committee to meet in June.
Courtney Fray asked about the Candlelight Tour of Homes event and was told not this year but to
come back reinvented to encompass new activities in the area. Council Liaison O'Dell about a virtual
walk through tour, also perhaps a passport to choose your area of interest such as music in the
Gazebo, Botanical Gardens tour with a Palace Theatre presentation; many alternatives to be created.
