HomeMy WebLinkAbout0407 Compensatory Time37 407 Compensatory Time .01 Eligible employees may request compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay. Eligible employees are: · Non-exempt employees who work over 40 hours in a work week, · Fire personnel assigned to 24-hour shifts, and · Sworn law enforcement assigned to 80-hour work periods. .02 The overtime worked must have been approved by the appropriate supervisor who will authorize compensatory time. .03 Compensatory time off with pay is accumulated at one and one-half (1½) hours for each overtime hour worked. Compensatory time cannot be taken in the same week that it is earned. Compensatory time earned by sworn law enforcement on an 80-hour work schedule cannot be taken in the same 80-hour period. .04 Compensatory time off may be used the same as vacation time with prior approval. .05 Current compensatory time totals will be maintained in Payroll. .06 Maximum accrual shall be 240 hours for all employees except Public Safety fire protection and sworn law enforcement personnel in which case it shall be 480 hours. For purposes of this policy, fire protection personnel includes all certified fire positions. For purposes of this policy, law enforcement personnel includes all sworn law enforcement positions. .07 Accrued compensatory time will be paid at the time an employee changes to exempt status, exceeds the accrual maximum, at termination, or as directed by the City Manager. However, Public Safety employees (defined above) who transfer to a position subject to the 240-hour limit may carry over to the new position accrued compensatory time. Subsequent overtime hours must be paid in cash until the number of accrued hours of compensatory time falls below the 240-hour limit. Revised 03/06/2009 Revised 06/09/2019 Revised 06/16/2021
