504 Transfers
A transfer is the assignment of an employee from one job, title or department to
another within the same pay grade.
.01 Transfers may be voluntary as a part of a selection process, for disciplinary reasons
or administrative, which includes management initiated actions.
.02 The employee must meet all qualifications for the position. A drug screen is required
except intradepartmental transfers such as Police Officer from Patrol to CID. If a
different functional assessment screen background check, credit check, polygraph,
driving record, and/or educational requirements are required, the employee will need
to meet the new requirements.
.03 Administrative intra-departmental transfers with the same job title shall be approved
by the Department Head and does not require a drug screen. The transferred
employee is not required to serve a new six (6) month probationary period.
(Example: Police Officer in the Patrol Division to Police Officer in CID.)
.04 Inter-departmental transfers must be coordinated by the affected departments to
facilitate the efficient transition of the employee from one department to the other.
.05 A transferred employee should ordinarily continue to receive the same salary.
Supervisors shall generally be paid 5% above their highest paid subordinate.
.06 There shall be no change in an employee’s anniversary/longevity date whether the
transfer is voluntary, disciplinary or administrative; however, regular full-time and
regular part-time employees will serve a six (6) month probationary period following
the date of transfer to a different job, title or department.
.07 Part-time, seasonal, and casual employees transferred to a regular full-time or
regular part-time position will serve an initial probationary period during the first six
(6) months following their date of transfer whether voluntary, disciplinary or
administrative.
