HomeMy WebLinkAbout0606 Bereavement Leave65 606 Bereavement Leave The City of Grapevine may grant time off to eligible employees due to the death of an immediate family member. .01 All regular full-time, regular part-time and probationary employees may be granted up to three consecutive work days/shifts off with pay per occurrence and not more than twice in one calendar year. One of the three days does not have to be the day of the funeral. Per occurrence, regular full-time employees are eligible for three consecutive shifts or work days, regular part-time employees are eligible for the number of hours they were scheduled to work for three consecutive shifts or work days, and firefighters working 24 hour shifts are eligible for 36 hours. Firefighters temporarily assigned to work a 40-hour week will be paid the same as general full- time employees. .02 Bereavement pay is calculated on the base pay rate at the time of the absence and does not include any special forms of compensation. .03 Approval of bereavement leave will occur unless there are unusual operating requirements. .04 An employee may request to use accrued compensatory time or vacation leave for additional time off as necessary. Sick leave cannot be used for bereavement leave.
