606 Bereavement Leave
The City of Grapevine may grant time off to eligible employees due to the death of
an immediate family member.
.01 All regular full-time, regular part-time and probationary employees may be granted
up to three consecutive work days/shifts off with pay per occurrence and not more
than twice in one calendar year. One of the three days does not have to be the day
of the funeral. Per occurrence, regular full-time employees are eligible for three
consecutive shifts or work days, regular part-time employees are eligible for the
number of hours they were scheduled to work for three consecutive shifts or work
days, and firefighters working 24 hour shifts are eligible for 36 hours. Firefighters
temporarily assigned to work a 40-hour week will be paid the same as general full-
time employees.
.02 Bereavement pay is calculated on the base pay rate at the time of the absence
and does not include any special forms of compensation.
.03 Approval of bereavement leave will occur unless there are unusual operating
requirements.
.04 An employee may request to use accrued compensatory time or vacation leave for
additional time off as necessary. Sick leave cannot be used for bereavement leave.
Sick leave must meet the requirements of Policy 603 in this manual.
