706 Reinstatement
In an effort to encourage long-range development and training of its employees, the
City of Grapevine provides for reinstatement to vacancies, which occur within six
months from the date an employee was laid off due to a reduction in the work force.
.01 The person that was laid off may be reinstated to their former position. If their position
is not available, they may be considered for available comparable positions for which
they qualify.
.02 Any employee who is reinstated after a lay off and who had previously satisfactorily
completed their initial probationary period shall be eligible for restoration of accrued
sick leave and reconnection of original employment date for the calculation of
vacation accrual rate and longevity pay.
.03 A former employee who is rehired under other than the reduction in work force
provision or those provided by law shall be classified as a new employee and treated
as such with one exception. Former employees rehired to the same job they vacated
within the previous three calendar months will not be required to participate in pre-
employment skills testing related to their former job. However, all applicants and
former employees will be required to undergo background checks, polygraph
examinations, psychological examinations, functional assessment screening, etc.,
when applicable to the job, and in all cases shall undergo pre-employment drug
testing.
