SUBJECT: WORKSHOP — CLEAN BRUSH & YARD WASTE PILOT
The City of Grapevine has been offered the opportunity to participate in a three -month
clean brush and yard waste recycle pilot program from Republic Services that will
complement the current Wednesday brush and bulk collections. Whereby, clean brush
and yard waste collections will alternate bi- weekly with normal brush and bulk collection.
The goal of this pilot program is to determine if:
• Grapevine residents like having the opportunity to divert clean brush & yard waste
from the landfill;
• the alternating schedule is appropriate for our community;
• the program reduces the amount of leaves intentionally blown into the street;
• the program reduces the overall costs associated with brush collection; and
• there are unforeseen problems that will need to be addressed in a full rollout.
The pilot program includes approximately 2,736 homes in two areas of the City identified
on the attached map. Should the City choose to continue with the service, the cost to
residents would not increase.
Representatives of Republic will present the details of the pilot program to the City Council.
