HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 10 - Wellness Management ProgramMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 17, 2021
SUBJECT: CONTRACT WITH VIRGIN PULSE FOR EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND
WELLNESS PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider contract with Virgin Pulse for a comprehensive
wellness management program.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in General Fund 100, Health Insurance Premium in
the estimated annual amount of $30,000.
BACKGROUND: Virgin Pulse is a web -based health engagement tool where employees
establish and stay up to date on their health. The program will engage
employees in their personal health/wellness through health assessments,
goal setting, healthy habits, challenges, and tracking including weight
management, nutrition, and fitness.
The Virgin Pulse program includes tracking capabilities for the employees'
bio-metric screenings year over year, as well as a mobile app for
employees to utilize and connect to their personal fitness devices.
Statistics show investment in employee health will increase employee
productivity and lower the risk for long term illnesses, which lowers health
care cost. The City's wellness program was with Simply Well previously.
Simply Well has now converted to Virgin Pulse so this contract will extend
the current program for two years without a rate increase.
Staff recommends approval.
