FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for the purchase of this equipment is available in accounts 113-48860-210-07
and 113-43465-210-07. The funding was received in the form of a 2011 Assistance to

$451,947.75. The grant requires matching funds of 10% which are available in the
above referenced grant accounts. Matching funds were provided through a fund transfer

BACKGROUND:
This procurement will be made as a sole source in accordance with Local Government
Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, Section 252.022 (A) (7) (A).
The fire department requested and was awarded a grant from the Assistance to
Firefighters Grant Program 2011 for the purchase of 11 cardiac monitors/defibrillators,
accessories, training and maintenance to replace the current inventory of cardiac
monitors/defibrillators which are considered past their useful service life. The LIFEPAK
15 cardiac monitors/defibrillators were selected for purchase as they are the only
defibrillators on the market that meet our medical director's protocol of delivering 360
joules of energy to cardiovert or defibrillate patients requiring therapeutic sources of
energy.
Staff recommends approval.
