Presentation
Kevin Mitchell presented on being a Gold Medal Award Finalist. The Grapevine Parks and Recreation
Gold Medal video was shown.
Kevin Mitchell presented the story behind the Rock Art Trail and how it came to obtain the Guinness
World Record as the 'largest display of painted pebbles/stones'.
Hunter Hardeman spoke about this year's Active Adult Christmas Party. Stated the event did not
happen last year, but they are planning to have event for 2021. The event will be on Monday,
December 13, at the DFW Lakes Hilton — Austin Ranch Room. The reception will begin at 5:00 p.m.,
followed by a welcome and dinner at 6:00 p.m. There will be door prizes and dancing, and the event
will conclude at 8:00 p.m. Dick Guckel expressed that FOGSAC would like to financially support the
Christmas Party. This event will be capped at 200 attendees, however approx. 150 typically attend.
Miscellaneous
Duff O'Dell gave a city council update — It was a busy summer, and we had a successful Main Street
Fest and Grapefest. Tonight is National Night Out with 35 neighborhoods participating. There will be a
brief council meeting prior to National Night Out. The Grapevine High School homecoming parade
was held and there was a great turn out with everyone having fun. Ridership on the train has picked
back up. We have a group headed to Houston to attend the Texas Municipal League Conference.
Also, the Historical Society will be meeting at the Library on October 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Teri Rhodes -Cantu gave a housing authority update — They are working with the Grapevine Library to
bring out the bookmobile. They are delivering books to homebound residents. There are currently 180
people on the housing waitlist.
Christine Szymaszek gave a GRACE update — GRACE moved all requests to telephone during
COVID to continue to support efforts. They made emergency boxes and distributed them via drive-
thru pick-ups. With senior isolation and loneliness being a major concern, they conducted a high
volume of phone calls, doctors' visits, and on -site deliveries. They are now back to in -person. The
numbers are down, but volunteerism is up. They are beginning to work on Christmas wish lists. They
are also offering COVID shots 2 days per a month and booster shots for seniors. The new donation
station on Texan Trail is now open.
Carey Miller mentioned the Empowering Seniors event will not be held this year, adding that the
church has sold that facility.
