SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT VEHICLE
DETECTION SYSTEMS
RECOMMENDATION: ity Council to consider approval for the purchase of replacement vehicle
detection systems from Mobotrex, Inc. and Iteris, Inc. for the Public Works
Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Projects Streets Fund for a total amount
not to exceed $385,075.
BACKGROUND: On September 7, 2021 staff presented the 2021-2022 Street Maintenance
Plan to Council. One portion of the presentation detailed a proposed traffic
signal project.
The traffic signal project includes the replacement of vehicle detection at
several locations throughout the City that were installed as part of a
Federal Grant Program in 2010 and 2011 that are at the end of their useful
life. The hardware will be purchased from Mobotrex, Inc. and Iteris, Inc.
and will be installed by City staff. The vehicle detection systems will be
upgraded at 21 signalized intersections in Grapevine.
Locations include the following and are shown in the attached exhibit:
1. Main Street at State Highway 114 WB Service Road
2. Main Street at State Highway 114 EB Service Road
3. State Highway 114 at William D Tate Avenue
4. State Highway 121 at Hall -Johnson Road
5. Dove Road at Silvercrest Lane
6. Dove Road at Park Boulevard
7. Dove Road at Dove Loop Road
8. Ball Street at Wall Street
9. Hall -Johnson Road at Heritage Avenue
10. Ball Street at College Street
11. Hall -Johnson Road at Pool Road
12. Euless -Grapevine Road at State Highway 360 NB Service Road
13. Main Street at Mustang Drive
14. Mustang Drive at Timberline Drive
15. William D. Tate Avenue at South Ball Street.
16. Stone Myers Parkway at State Highway 121
17. Stone Myers Parkway at State Highway 360
18. Glade Road at State Highway 360 NB Service Road
19. Glade Road at State Highway 360 SB Service Road
20. Glade Road at Baze Road
21. Glade Road at Champagne Boulevard
These purchases will be made in accordance with existing interlocal
agreements with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and contracts were awarded to
Mobotrex and Iteris, Inc. The Public Works Department and Purchasing
staff reviewed the contracts for departmental specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best product
and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
