HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12 - Boat SlipsMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 2021
SUBJECT: SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF BOAT SLIP RENTALS FOR MARINE 1,
2AND 3
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of a sole source purchase for boat slip
rentals for both Fire Department boats and a jet ski from Scott's Landing
Marina at Lake Grapevine for the Fire Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Fire Department) for an amount
not to exceed $15,768.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is required so that our marine units are on the water and in
a ready state for response to lake emergencies. Our marine units have
been housed at Scotts Landing Marina for the better part of a decade.
This allows personnel to respond directly to other marine/lake calls for
service without the time delay of trailering a boat from a fire station,
launching said boat when the ramp is open, parking the tow vehicle and
then responding to the call for service. For Fiscal Year 2020, Marine 1
responded to 109 incidents and Fiscal Year 2021 it responded to 96
incidents. We are the primary first responders to any call for service, be it
a drowning, boat sinking/taking on water, dead battery/out of fuel, boat
and or marina fire or emergency medical service call on Grapevine Lake.
The purchase of the boat slip rentals will be made as a sole source
purchase from Scott's Landing Marina at Lake Grapevine in accordance
with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, §252.022.
General Exemptions (a)(7)(3).
Staff recommends approval.
