4. 2021 YEAR IN REVIEW
Chairman Curtis Ratliff, staff and board members each reported on the highlights of
2021 and plans for the new year.
Membership Report — Secretary Janet Perkins
The membership was reported at 194 active memberships; membership dues raised
$12,080; donations received in the amount of $10,080; and the memorial brick program
had 13 bricks added; Janet thanked our members and Curtis noted membership and
volunteers are the life blood of this foundation.
Palace Theatre Report — Frances Jensen
During the Palace Arts Center for 2021, we had 359 events with an attendance total of
over 33,000 individuals, not bad for still being in a pandemic! The economic impact of
that is a little over $1.2 million dollars even considering the year we have had. There
were 61 performing and visual arts events; 25 banquets and social gatherings; 54
association meetings. The Palace Arts Theatre ran a total of 153 movies and our shows
included The Texas Tenors, Petersens, Carpenters Tribute band, The Sinatra
Experience, Friday night Funnies and more!
The Palace Theatre is celebrating its 81st anniversary on November the 21st, there are
not a lot of theatres that have been around for 81 years as many are being sold and
basically facing the demolition block. We have the Mayor, City Council, Grapevine
Heritage Foundation, Grapevine Historical Society, the Historic Preservation
Commission and our citizens to thank! They love this town, preservation and history.
They want to see Nash Farm, which is the heart of our foundation and The Palace
Theatre, which is the gem on Main Street continue. I am so excited that people are
coming back to the theatre bringing their generations of families to make memories.
Please come out to The Palace during the holidays. They will have your favorites and
soon to be classics. We are looking forward to a great lineup of movies in 2022— see
you at The Palace!

Nash Farm Report —Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield
Nash Farm had a wonderful 2021, setting records in everything from visitation, earned
income and sponsorship. First Friday events have brought in numerous visitors with
attendance of over 300 people each time. Nash Farm is alive and well with larger
turnouts than ever before at the 21st Annual Fall Roundup!
Choppin' Cotton, our public work inducted at Fall Roundup, is a wonderful way to
remind you where our community came from and that farming wasn't easy; this is a
great remembrance to the roots of our families that once lived and worked in this area.
Two men in in particular we honor in remembrance with this sculpture are Joe Wright
and Jess Daniels who made great contributions to our community, the farm and our
heritage foundation.
In 2022, Nash Farm is going to focus on 19th Century Skills and Trades. Cody and the
staff at Nash Farm are working hard to come up with new programming; we have many
repeat visitors and the farm is dedicated to changing things up so people want to keep
coming back time and again. We would also like to remind you that the heritage
foundation appreciates your membership and support; we need your help and would
like to see more volunteers and our members be involved; take possession of the farm
as we have all worked so hard for it.
5. SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Chairman Curtis Ratliff expressed great appreciation of Nash Farm and The Palace
Theatre noting they are very important destinations and attractions for Grapevine and all
of Texas; very proud of what has been accomplished this year, weathering the
Pandemic and our programs continued to be important in the lives of our community,
young and old.
Heritage Museums and Education Programs Manager Cody Jolliff, has done a great job
connecting Nash Farm with Main Street and the sites in the Cotton Belt Railroad
District. We will continue to expand these connections by growing our programs,
building our staff of volunteers, offering new learning opportunities across Nash Farm
and our historic sites; presenting our history and sharing our heritage with students and
visitors alike. New this year, the Board has also been discussing ways to create an
endowment fund to help expand our great programs. We have learned about the past
while having fun and sharing meaningful times together; thank you foundation members
for an outstanding 2021!
Before this meeting is adjourned, Chairman Curtis asks if there are any questions or
comments? Grapevine Heritage Foundation member Ms. Liz Covington speaks up and
declares that she would like to express that even though she is not a local resident, she
takes a great deal of pride in Grapevine. People look around at other cities and they
say, "why didn't we do that"? You can build all the new you want to, but unless you hold
on to that past and you build onto it, you don't have the same thing. When you come to

Grapevine, you get a feeling that you belong and are wanted here. Where I live, we
have shopping centers, a little town hall and no downtown so I come to Grapevine!
Working at Nash Farm all these years being connected while seeing growth and
change, there is always something new and different. That's what life should be; without
the past to build on, you don't have life at all. Curtis expressed his deep appreciation of
Ms. Covington and her contribution to Nash Farm particularly in the story telling. He had
mentioned to Heritage Preservation Programs Manager David Klempin just the other
day of a story she told that had such an impact on him personally. Ms. Covington
proceeded to tell her heartwarming story originating from German folklore known as The
Legend of the Christmas Spider.

Chairman Ratliff called to adjourn the meeting with another unanimous consent to
