Main Street Grapevine, Texas AGENDA 1. Call to Order 2. Citizen Comments Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Convention & Visitors Bureau Board under Citizen Comments or on any other agenda item by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form with staff. A member of the public may address the CVBB regarding an item on the agenda either before or during the Board's consideration of the item,upon being recognized by the Board Chair or upon consent of the CVBB. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the CVBB is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 3. Approval of Minutes 4. Sales & Marketing Report 5. In accordance with Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.001 et seq, Acts of the 1993 Texas Legislature, the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board Meeting agenda was prepared and posted on this the 10th day of December, 2021 by 5:00 p.m. D lna Farmer Assistant to the Executive Director State of Texas County of Tarrant City of Grapevine MINUTES The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors met in Regular Session on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Hotel VIN, 215 E Dallas Road, Grapevine, Texas with the following persons in attendance: Joe Szymaszek Board Chair Mark Terpening Board Vice Chair Dan Weinberger Board Member Corinna Wenks Board Member Cynthia Blankenship Board Member Debi Meek Alternate Board Member Constituting a quorum, with the following liaisons and staff members present: Sharron Spencer Council Liaison Bruno Rumbelow City Manager Jennifer Hibbs Assistant City Manager Paul W. McCallum Executive Director Brady Closson Deputy Executive Director Donna Farmer Assistant to the Executive Director Special guests attending included Mayor William B. Tate and members of the City of Grapevine City Council. Absent: lain Scouller Board Member Chuck Pacioni Board Member CALL TO ORDER Chairman Szymaszek called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Mark Terpening, seconded by Cynthia Blankenship to approve the minutes from the November 18, 2021 meeting prevailed by the following vote: Ayes: Szymaszek, Weinberger, Meek, Wenks. Nays: None Board of Directors Meeting December 14, 2021 Page 2 of 3 NEW BUSINESS Mr. McCallum provided a year in review to the Board reflecting on the effect of the pandemic and the CVB's response. He discussed some of the programs that were created to keep Grapevine in the top of the minds with our stakeholders, meeting planners and visitors which contributed to the rebound of Grapevine tourism. This was followed with a video presentation showing various advertisement, media coverage and statements from stakeholders. Mr. McCallum closed his comments with future prediction of travel and the tourism within Grapevine. Ms. Naomi Saenz conducted the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. At 7:20 p.m. Chairman Szymaszek suspended the Board Meeting. At 8:15 p.m. Chairman Szymaszek resumed the Board Meeting. Mr. McCallum reviewed some hotel and attractions additions, noting this was done during the pandemic and was contributed to the City of Grapevine leadership (Mayor and Council). Openings included Hotel VIN, Hilton Garden Inn Silverlake Crossing and Legoland Discover Center Interactive retail store (the 1st in the world). This was in addition to several restaurant openings. Staff Awards Mr. McCallum recognized the various teams within the CVB individual for their work during the past year in addition to recognizing Gayle Hall and Tom Wayne, previous employees lost over the year. Mr. McCallum presented the following staff awards: Rookie of the Year award to Emily Henvey, Communications Coordinator, Joey Wilkins Can Do award to Scott Baker, Creative Marketing Manager, Unsung Hero award to Johnny Borghesi, Roundhouse Mechanic, Directors Award to Barry Feldner, Festival & Event Manager, and Employee of the Year award to Ken Adams, Train Supervisor, Mayor Tate addressed the Board and staff sharing comments regarding the rebound of both the CVB and the overall businesses, tourism, conventions and festivals within Grapevine. He touched on some of the history of Grapevine and how far it has come in economic development. Mayor Tate commented on the various events that happened over the past year which included the dedication of the Peace Circle and Grapevine citizen Wally Funk going to space. His comments were wrapped up reviewing the 2021 Christmas Capital of Texas with overwhelming crowds and credited everyone to the great success and thanked the staff for their hard work and dedication. There being no further business to come before the board a motion by Mark Terpening, seconded by Cynthia Blankenship to adjourn the meeting at 8:57 p.m. prevailed by the following vote: Ayes: Szymaszek, Weinberger, Meek, Wenks Nays: None PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE GRAPEVINE CONVENTION &VISITORS BUREAU BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS ON THIS 20th DAY OF JANUARY, 2022.
