RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, STATING THE SUPPORT OF THE
CITY'S WILLINGNESS TO ACCEPT THE PRESERVE
AMERICA FUNDING IF AWARDED AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Preserve America is a White House Initiative developed in
cooperation with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of
the Interior, and other Federal agencies to support communities that have demonstrated
a commitment to recognizing, designating, and protecting local cultural resources; and
WHEREAS, in January 2007 the City of Grapevine received from Preserve
America Honorary Chair First Lady Laura Bush notification that Grapevine was
designated a Preserve America Community making the City eligible to apply for a
Preserve America grant; and
WHEREAS, the Preserve America grant is available to assist local economies in
finding self-sustaining ways to promote their cultural resources through heritage
tourism; and
WHEREAS, the Preserve America grant monies would assist in the funding for
the creation of a walking tour brochure, one that will connect the Cotton Belt Depot to
Nash Farm to historic downtown Grapevine; and
WHEREAS, the Preserve America grant monies would assist in the funding for
the creation of pod cast tours of the Cotton Belt Depot, Nash Farm, and historic
downtown; and
WHEREAS, the Preserve America grant monies would assist in the funding for
the creation of a full color book of photography that reveals the treasures of life in
Grapevine, which will serve as a marketing tool for heritage tourism.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct
and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine supports the grant
application submittal of the Heritage Programs and Preservation division of the
Convention and Visitors Bureau and is willing to accept the Preserve America, funding if
awarded, and fulfills the Project.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 15th day of May, 2007.
