SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF FOUR FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY
VEHICLES AND THREE CHEVROLET TAHOES
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of four Ford police
interceptor utility vehicles and three Chevrolet Tahoes from Silsbee Ford
and Lake Country Chevrolet for the Police Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for a total
amount not to exceed $452,964.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for four 2022 Ford Police interceptor utility vehicles (Ford
Explorer frame) which would replace four older units and three 2022
Police Department Tahoes replacing three older units. All were included in
the FY 2022 Vehicle Replacement Program. The cost for each vehicle
includes lights, seats, cages, console, ballistic door panels, partitions,
paint scheme, majority of electronics, cargo box and gun locks.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the Region VIII Education Service Center known as The
Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) in Texas as allowed by Texas Local
Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government Code, Chapter
791.
Bids were taken by the cooperative and contracts were awarded to
Silsbee Ford and Lake Country Chevrolet. The Police, Fleet Services and
Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for departmental specification
compliance and pricing and determined that the contract would provide
the best product and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
