Citizen Comments Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board under Citizen Comments or on any other agenda item by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form with the staff. A member of the public may address the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board regarding an item on the agenda either before or during the Board’s consideration of the item, upon being recognized by the Chairman or upon the consent of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. Approval of Minutes A motion was made to approve the November 18, 2021 meeting minutes. Motion: Assaad Second: Light Ayes: Robertson, Harris, Cowans, Gibson, Assaad, Nichols, Light, Ross, Musar Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 Citizen Comments None New Business The following Adopt -An -Area Agreements were reviewed. • Adopt -An -Area (New) o Steve and Maggie Haley • Adopt -An -Area (Renewals) o Beverley Martin o Grapevine Cycling Club / Mad Duck Racing o Slechta Family o Ken and Clydene Johnson o The Smith Family A motion was made to approve the new Adopt -An -Area agreement. Motion: Robertson Second: Musar Ayes: Robertson, Harris, Cowans, Gibson, Assaad, Nichols, Light, Ross, Musar Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 A motion was made to approve the 5 Adopt -An -Area agreement renewals. Motion: Robertson Second: Nichols Ayes: Robertson, Harris, Cowans, Gibson, Assaad, Nichols, Light, Ross, Musar Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 February's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting — The board discussed canceling the February Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting due to park staff attending the Texas Recreation and Park Society Institute and Expo in College Station, Texas. A motion was made to cancel the February's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting. Motion: Musar Second: Assaad Ayes: Robertson, Harris, Cowans, Gibson, Assaad, Nichols, Light, Ross, Musar Nays: None Absent: None Approved: 9-0 Board Workshop Board members reviewed their discussions from the November Board Workshop. Kevin Mitchell also reviewed the department's mission, vision and core values. Miscellaneous Board Items Parks and Recreation Update — Kevin Mitchell provided an update. Spring events are coming out. March 21, 2022 is GoGrapevine's 50th birthday. The Spring GoGrapevine magazine was delivered to homes at the beginning of January. The Summer Camp Directory will be mailed out in early February. CNN will be in town this weekend to do a story/interviews on the Parr Park Rock Art Trail. Volunteer opportunities for the board are available at the upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Lunch. GCISD Student Report — Aubrey Alexander was present and provided an update. GCISD has shut down until Monday, January 24, due to a shortage in available subs. Grapevine High School and Colleyville Heritage High School attended the DECA competition. Students from both schools are advancing to the state competition in Austin, Texas. Grapevine High School cheerleading squad won their first UIL Spirit State Championship, taking home the 5A Division 1 title with a score of 93.60. Colleyville Heritage High School cheerleaders earned a sixth place finish in their division. GCISD Report — Becky St. John was not present.
