SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF A PROGRESSIVE CAVITY
PUMP
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the award of an informal request for
a quote for the purchase of a progressive cavity pump from Hartwell
Environmental Corporation for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Utility Enterprise Fund for an amount not to
exceed $30,550.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is necessary to replace a pump for the gravity belt
thickener at the Wastewater Treatment Plant that was acquired in 1997.
This pump is an integral part of the dewatering process and is at the end
of its useful life.
Informal quotes were taken in accordance with the City Purchasing Policy.
Formal bids and advertisements are not required for purchases under
$50,000. Three quotes were submitted as noted below. The low bid quote
from Precision Pump was removed as they quoted a different brand pump
than the existing pump. Hartwell Environmental Corporation submitted the
lowest quote meeting specifications.
Hartwell Environmental Corporation $30,550.
Global Pump Solutions $35,935.
Precision Pump $29,596.
Staff recommends approval.
