MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER K\L
MEETING DATE: APRIL 19, 2011
SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER # 1 — STATE HIGHWAY 26 WATERLINE
RELOCATION PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION
City Council consider approving: Change Order # 1 to the State Highway 26 Waterline
Relocation Project in the amount of $105,570.82, authorize staff to execute said change
order, and take any necessary action.
FUNDING-
Funds are programmed for this project in 01 Utility Bonds, Acct # 200- 48930- 534 -7-
000013WA.
BACKGROUND:
City Council approved the SH 26 Waterline Relocation contract with Gin -Spen, Inc. on
October 20, 2009 in an amount of $593,366.00. The scope of the project extended from
just south of Pool Road along the south side of SH 26 for a distance of 8,800 LF.
An additional 540 LF of waterline relocation was initially designed by our consultant, but not
included in the original contract because TxDOT had not acquired the necessary right of
way for the relocation. This right -of -way acquisition was to be acquired by Northgate
Constructors with the DFW connector project.
The right -of -way has now been acquired by NorthGate Constructors and the final 540 LF
can be relocated for the SH 26 widening project just recently placed under contract by
TxDOT. (Cost $86,491.03)
This will extend our waterline relocation to a point in front of Blooming Colors Nursery that
coincides with the limit of the SH 26 widening project. Future waterline relocations and
roadway widening will be constructed by NorthGate Constructors as part of the DFW
Connector project.
Change Order # 1 also includes the added length due to rerouting the waterline in the
vicinity of the Mustang Drive intersection to avoid traffic impacts at the intersection. (Cost
$1 9,079.79)
Staff recommends approval.
