FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: APRIL 5, 2022
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF 37 COBRAHEAD FIXTURES
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval for the purchase of 37 CobraHead
fixtures from Consolidated Traffic Controls for the Public Works Traffic
Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Projects Streets Fund for an amount not
to exceed $18,120.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for installation of 37 LED CobraHead fixtures to replace
the high-pressure sodium fixtures on existing traffic signal poles. Not only
do LED fixtures use significantly less energy to power, they have a much
longer life (10 years) reducing staff costs to maintain. The LED
replacements will occur at intersections along the State Highway
26/Northwest Highway corridor, Anderson -Gibson at Grapevine Mills
South and Glade road at State Highway 121.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with Houston -Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) as allowed by
Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government
Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
Consolidated Traffic Controls. The Public Works and Purchasing staff
reviewed the contracts for departmental specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contracts would provide the best products
and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
