The following members present to-wit: Lynda Brown Chairman Sonia Duque-Miyashita Member Suzanne Matthews Member Gerald Shannon Member Krishna Shenoy Secretary .Janee Trasler Member Darlene Freed City Council Liaison constituting a quorum with the following members of the City staff: Leigh Kapsos and Chad Hetterley, Acting Library Directors. Megan Li, Member, was not in attendance. 1. CALL TO ORDER The Meeting was called to order by Lynda Brown at 6:30 pm. 2. CITIZEN COMMENTS None. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Janee Trasler to approve the January 17, 2022 minutes, seconded by Gerald Shannon, Ayes: Unanimous Nays: None 4. NEW BUSINESS A. Library accreditation submitted for approval. Grapevine Public Library undergoes an annual accreditation process through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. For meeting standards set by the state, the library continues to have access to Texshare Databases, competitive grants, a-rate internet discounts, interlibrary loan reimbursement, and is considered a quality of life marker. B. Texas Library Association Annual Library Conference Twelve staff members will attend the conference April 22-25 in Fort Worth. Chad will be presenting on the eSports initiative, grant, and programming, Leigh will be presenting at three programs related to creating programming with recycling materials, outreach services, and a panel on sensory inclusion. C. Summer reading program D. This summer the theme is"Ocean of Possibilities". Friends of the Library have provided additional funding for performers and decorations. Thanks to this donation several of the program will be offered more than once to allow for social distancing and any additional attendance. Typically the Summer Reading program brings in approximately 2000 participants E. New staff member Taylor Wortley, has joined the staff as a part-timeLibraryAssistant. He will primarily assist with eSports and Create It. Taylor is a graduate in computer science from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. F. Teen and Outreach These areas are now supervised by Leigh. Recent improvements to the Teen Volunteer program and the Teen Zone have resulted in increased engagement with Teens. Teens received lessons in puppetry and put on a Valentine's Day program for storytime. Teens are also participating as afterschool "Homework Helpers". Teens will also be engaged as"Book Tokkers"--creating tik-toks and reels reviewing books and promoting programs at the library. A new"Anime Club", that meets twice a month, is also attracting Teens to the Library. G. GPL App Update The myLibro app was scrapped because the company did not deliver on promised customizations and improvements as promised. The Library has a new contract with OCLC's CapiraMobile app https://www.ocic.org/en/capira/capiramobiie.html. This new app will have the necessary customizations and features. It is currently available for beta-testing. Chad is the point person for any questions regarding the app. The goal is to have the app up and running before the Summer Reading program begins. H. Connections A new program called "Connections"will bring together parents of special needs children for discussion and support. This program meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7 pm. The Library plans to increase promotion by reaching out to other special needs resources, schools, and groups in the area. 1. Seed Library Exchange Staffer, Christina Proctor has established a seed library exchange. Patrons can check out seeds and bring back seeds to replenish the library stock. Programs related to gardening and seed retrieval are being planned. J. Hotspots Hotspots have just started circulating at the Library and they check out just like a book-3 week check out but limited to one per household. The Library received 21 units via the Emergency Connectivity fund grant as part of the eliminating the digital divide initiative. Janee suggested adding Geocaching devices as an item that can be checked out. K. Discussion • Darlene and Board expressed gratitude to Leigh and Chad for stepping up and leading the Library. Darleen thanked the Board for its continuing support. • Darlene explained the City Council is considering additional funding for the Library to update the appearance of the facility in anticipation of the 100 year anniversary of the library in 2023. • Darlene also invited Board members to consider volunteering their time to Six Stonf's CPR • Earth day home renovation event in Grapevine. Those interested should contact Leig for additional details. • Leigh invited the Board to attend an outreach visit. Email her for dates to schedule a visit. K. Next Board Meeting The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 18, 2022 at 6:30 pm. There was no formal action taken. 5. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Gerald Shannon, seconded by Janee Trasier, to adjourn meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 7:35 pm.
