A. Library accreditation submitted for approval.
Grapevine Public Library undergoes an annual accreditation process through the Texas State
Library and Archives Commission. For meeting standards set by the state, the library continues to
have access to Texshare Databases, competitive grants, a-rate internet discounts, interlibrary
loan reimbursement, and is considered a quality of life marker.
B. Texas Library Association Annual Library Conference
Twelve staff members will attend the conference April 22-25 in Fort Worth. Chad will be
presenting on the eSports initiative, grant, and programming, Leigh will be presenting at three
programs related to creating programming with recycling materials, outreach services, and a
panel on sensory inclusion.
C. Summer reading program
D. This summer the theme is"Ocean of Possibilities". Friends of the Library have provided additional
funding for performers and decorations. Thanks to this donation several of the program will be
offered more than once to allow for social distancing and any additional attendance. Typically the
Summer Reading program brings in approximately 2000 participants
E. New staff member
Taylor Wortley, has joined the staff as a part-timeLibraryAssistant. He will primarily assist with
eSports and Create It. Taylor is a graduate in computer science from Tarleton State University in
Stephenville, TX.
F. Teen and Outreach
These areas are now supervised by Leigh. Recent improvements to the Teen Volunteer program
and the Teen Zone have resulted in increased engagement with Teens. Teens received lessons
in puppetry and put on a Valentine's Day program for storytime. Teens are also participating as
afterschool "Homework Helpers". Teens will also be engaged as"Book Tokkers"--creating tik-toks
and reels reviewing books and promoting programs at the library. A new"Anime Club", that meets
twice a month, is also attracting Teens to the Library.
G. GPL App Update
The myLibro app was scrapped because the company did not deliver on promised customizations
and improvements as promised. The Library has a new contract with OCLC's CapiraMobile app
https://www.ocic.org/en/capira/capiramobiie.html. This new app will have the necessary
customizations and features. It is currently available for beta-testing. Chad is the point person for
any questions regarding the app. The goal is to have the app up and running before the Summer
Reading program begins.
H. Connections
A new program called "Connections"will bring together parents of special needs children for
discussion and support. This program meets the second Wednesday of each month from 6-7 pm.
The Library plans to increase promotion by reaching out to other special needs resources,
schools, and groups in the area.
1. Seed Library Exchange
Staffer, Christina Proctor has established a seed library exchange. Patrons can check out seeds
and bring back seeds to replenish the library stock. Programs related to gardening and seed
retrieval are being planned.
J. Hotspots
Hotspots have just started circulating at the Library and they check out just like a book-3 week
check out but limited to one per household. The Library received 21 units via the Emergency
Connectivity fund grant as part of the eliminating the digital divide initiative. Janee suggested
adding Geocaching devices as an item that can be checked out.
