HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 13 - Emergency Medical Continuing EducationMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: JUNE 7, 2022 SUBJECT: RENEWAL OF AN ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR EMS CONTINUING EDUCATION RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the renewal of an annual contract for emergency medical continuing education with BEST EMS for the Fire Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Fire Department) for an amount not to exceed $15,150. BACKGROUND: The Texas Department of State Health Services requires all paramedics to receive a minimum of 144 hours of continuing education every four years. This contract provides the necessary CE curriculum to retain both Texas and National Registry Certifications at every level. Continuing education is provided monthly with lecture and hands on scenarios. The contract also covers the cost of cadaver labs for additional training opportunities. This procurement will be made in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a) (4), professional services. The contract was for an initial one-year period with three, one-year renewal options. If approved, this would be the final renewal available. Staff recommends approval. is/LW
