DIRE"CT.M OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, March 25, 1993 at 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizen's Center, 421 North Church Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to -wit: Robert Brunson Jackie Disselkoen John Fox Denise Gasmire Don Hanes Absent: Larry Atchley Joel Holt David O'Briant Margaret Telford Jack Webre Shane Wilbanks The following City Staff were present: Doug Evans Joe Moore David O'Briant called the meeting to order. Don Hanes gave the invocation. John Fox moved that the minutes of the January 21, 1993 meeting be approved, Joel Holt seconded. The minutes were approved. Under discussion items, Doug Evans introduced the selection of a student liaison to the Park Board. Several Board members agreed with this proposal, mentioning the benefits to the Board and to the student liaison. It was agreed that the Staff would draw up an application and work with GCISD to encourage students to apply. Denise Gasmire made the motion to amend Park Board rules to include a student liaison. John Fox seconded. The motion passed. The amendment stated: Amend Chapter 16, Section 2 of the Code of Ordinances to include a student from Grapevine High School who resides within the city limits of Grapevine and who would serve as an ex officio one year member of the Park Board. Under other discussion items, Doug Evans stated that he wanted the Park Board to have more input on improvements made to city property by volunteer groups. Mr. Evans also stated that he wants the Board to be more involved in the decision making process of park usage. Joe Moore suggested that groups using the parks do a service project for using the park facilities. Doug Evans also suggested a review of the fees and deposits in place for park usage. David O'Briant asked that guidelines on these issues be brought to the next meeting for discussion. Under current park development, Joe Moore reported that the contract for construction on the Oak Grove Baseball Complex had been extended for two additional months due to weather. The new completion day is set for May 15, 1993, however games would begin on April 5, 1993. Also under the Big Bear Creek Project, new playground equipment would be replaced as quickly as possible at Parr Park. Mr Moore stated that the Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department was in the finals for the Governor's Award for Excellence, thus in the top eight in the state of Texas. He also stated that Pickering Park was now handicapped accessible. The following events are scheduled in Grapevine: Horseshoe Trails Park officially opens April 3, the Oak Grove Easter Egg Hunt takes place April 10, Earthday Grapevine is April 17, and Main Street Days take place May 15 and 16, 1993. The Board set the following meeting dates for April and May. The April meeting will be Tuesday, April 20, 1993 and the May meeting will be Tuesday, May 18, 1993.
