FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JULY 5, 2022
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF BUILDING SERVICE AND CONSTRUCTION REPAIRS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to Consider the purchase of building service and construction
with Ware Brothers and Kidd Plumbing for the ADA accessible restroom
and shower units at Meadowmere Park for the Parks and Recreation
Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Lake Parks Fund for an amount not to exceed
$70,700.
BACKGROUND: City Council authorized the purchase of a shipping container for use as a
restroom at the April 5, 2022 City Council meeting. This purchase is for
the custom on -site conversion of the shipping container into four individual
ADA accessible restroom amd shower units within the Meadowmere Park
camping area near our partner Rise Adaptive Sports programming area.
There has been a need for a restroom in this area for some time, but it
has been cost prohibitive. This custom solution comes at roughly 1/3 of
the cost of a traditional prefabricated restroom and associated
plumbing/electrical. In addition, the design also allows the building to be
unhooked and moved to higher ground when needed due to lake flooding,
thus protecting it from damage.
This purchase includes building and/or installation of interior walls,
subflooring, doors, insulation, electrical, lighting, exhaust fans, painting
and exterior improvements, plumbing rough -in and trim -out for four
showers, four lavatories, four floor drains, four toilets, and four water
heaters.
This procurement will be made in accordance with Local Government
Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a) (4),
personal, professional or planning services.
Staff recommends approval.
