MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER j-Z,
MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 20, 201
SUBJECT: MEADOWMERE PARK BOAT RAMP IMPROVEMENTS —
CHANGE ORDER NO. 1
RECOMMENDATION:

Ramp Improvements construction contract with Dean Electric dba Dean Construction in
the amount of $48,750. A copy of the change order is attached.
FUNDING SOURCE:

BACKGROUND:
The Council approved a resolution at the September 16, 2008 meeting authorizing
participation in the State Boating Access Program managed by the Texas Parks &
Wildlife Department (TPWD). Staff subsequently submitted a grant application for a low
water boat ramp to the TPWD and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission approved the
grant at their January 2009 meeting. Staff submitted a second grant application to
TPWD for a restroom facility, picnic pavilion and other amenities in mid 2009 and the
grant was approved by the TPWD Commission in January of 2010. A total of $470,049
was approved by the TPWD Commission for the boat ramp improvements and the City's
match is $200,000.
The project includes the installation of a low water boat ramp and concrete drive and
turnaround, two courtesy docks and gangways, walkways, a pavilion, restroom, lighting,
landscaping and parking lot improvements.
This boat ramp is designed to be a low water boat ramp. When the project was sent out
for bids, the specifications stated that the end of the boat ramp was lake elevation 535,
which is the normal level of the lake. The project was bid this way because the elevation
of the lake could not be determined at the time of construction. Since the lake is over 3
feet below normal level, Change Order No. 1 will allow the ramp to be extended another
36 feet. The ramp is designed to be extended another 48 feet into the lake. However, it
would be cost prohibitive to extend the ramp that far at this time. As the lake level drops
in the future, staff will extend the ramp.
