SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO PURCHASE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT FOR
BEAR CREEK AND C. J. HUTCHINS PARKS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider the purchase of playground equipment for Bear Creek and C. J.
Hutchins Parks from The Playwell Group through a cooperative purchasing agreement
with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buyboard.com) in the total amount
of$149,812.03.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 174-74015-067-000 (PCMF).
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing Interlocal Agreement with the
Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buyboard.com) as allowed by Texas Local
Government Code, Section 271.102. Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract
was awarded to The Playwell Group under contract number 269-07. The term of this
contract is from October 1, 2007 until September 30, 2010. The Interlocal Agreement
and Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfy all bidding requirements under the Local
Government Code.
This request is to approve the purchase and installation of playground equipment for
Bear Creek and C. J. Hutchins Parks as listed below:

The Bear Creek Park playground is 14 years old and was installed in 1995. The
proposed playground will be replaced with a Play World structure similar to the new
playground at Pickering Park.
The playground at C. J. Hutchins Park is 12 years old and was installed in 1997. The
proposed playground is a new playground design similar to the new playgrounds at the
Oak Grove Soccer and Baseball Complex. The proposed playground will also
incorporate a play structure appropriate for children ages 2-5. This feature has been
requested by the neighborhood association.
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of the playground equipment from The
Playwell Group, in a total amount not to exceed $149,812.03.
