HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 01 - Township Boundary ExtensionMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 1, 2011
SUBJECT: TOWNSHIP BOUNDARY EXTENSION:
FROM WOOD STREET BETWEEN EAST WALL AND
EAST WORTH STREETS TO THE D. E. BOX ADDITION
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider the proposed extension of the existing Township boundary from
Wood Street to the D. E. Box Addition, and take any necessary action.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Grapevine is committed to the preservation and protection of the City's
architecturally and historically significant structures and neighborhoods. It has previously
established the boundaries of the Original Township of the City of Grapevine and
designated it as the Historic Grapevine Township District. With this designation, certain
protections were implemented for the District including design review for any properties
threatened with demolition.
In September 2011 the Council held a workshop on the proposal to designate the D. E.
Box Addition as a landmark historic district. At the workshop it was noted that between
the existing Township and the D. E. Box Addition, there is a one half block area that
would be without protection from demolition offered by the Township and D. E. Box
Historic District ordinances. Staff was asked to bring forward a proposal to extend the
existing Township from Wood Street, between East Wall and East Worth, to the rear
property line of homes on Ruth Street in the Box Addition. Maps are attached with this
memo showing the existing Township boundary, Exhibit A: Properties to be added to the
boundary and Exhibit B: The new Township boundary.
Staff recommends approval of the proposed extension of the Township boundary to help
protect historic properties within the historic Township area.
