SUBJECT: PRESERVATION ADVOCACY AWARD WINNERS FOR 2009
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council recognizes the Preservation Advocacy Award honorees for 2009. The
Board of Directors of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation requests Mayor Tate present
plaques to the winners at the May 19, 2009 meeting of Grapevine City Council.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Incremental funding for plaques comes from the historic preservation account balance.
BACKGROUND:
ra" In February 2009, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation Education Committee reviewed
and recommended nominations for the 2009 Preservation Advocacy Awards. Final
nominees were chosen by the Foundation's Executive Committee on March 12, 2009,
and unanimously approved by the Board of Directors at their March 18, 2009 meeting.
The categories and honorees are as follows:
Grapevine Township Project Award — Butch Etheridge and Faith Christian School
For outstanding restoration of the historic Grapevine Band Hall/Homemaking Cottage to
its original appearance at 730.East Worth Street.
Restoration Project— Sarah and Jason Wright
For their restoration of the historic Millican House at 603 East Worth Street.
Rehabilitation Award — John Beck
For the outstanding rehabilitation of the Historic Miles - Chambers House, its grounds
and outbuildings at 626 South Church Street.
New Infill Construction —Jackie and Vick Cox Residence
For a new house that follows the City of Grapevine design guidelines and criteria to
reflect Grapevine's historic past at 418 East Texas Street.
Advocacy Award — Grapevine Masonic Lodge
For leadership in restoration and preservation of the historic Grapevine Masonic Lodge
building at 401 South Main Street.

Special Recognition Advocacy Award — Mary Virginia Simmons
For her support and contribution to the understanding of Grapevine's historical
development and the enhancement of the cultural heritage of the City.
The Grapevine Heritage Foundation is very pleased with the winners.
