HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 16 - Motorola Mobile WorkstationsIT MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER t MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2011 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF MOTOROLA MOBILE WORKSTATIONS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT FROM MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS INC. THROUGH AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE HOUSTON - GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of a resolution for the purchase of ten Motorola Mobile Workstations for the Police Department from Motorola Solutions Inc. through an interlocal agreement with the Houston - Galveston Area Council. The total cost of this purchase is not to exceed $62,836.80. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in account 117 -48860 -209 -4 (Crime Control District Fund/ CCPD Technical Services/ Machinery Equipment and Implementation) $62,836.80. BACKGROUND: This purchase will be made !in accordance with an existing interlocal agreement with the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGACBuy) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102. Bids were taken by the Council and a contract was awarded to Motorola, Inc. under contract number RA 01 -08 effective until December 31, 2011. The Interlocal Agreement and Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfy all bidding requirements under the Local Government Code. The purpose of this resolution is to approve the purchase of ten mobile workstations and the associated hardware /software from Motorola Solutions Inc. using an existing contract with the Houston /Galveston Area Council. The computers will be used in the field by the Police Department to replace existing older technology and will ensure that officers are using state of the art equipment that increases officer safety and efficiency. The equipment will replace aging mobile workstations that are five years old and at the end of their normal life expectancy. The Motorola equipment being purchased under the HGACBuy contract has the brightest touch screen monitor currently available and is critical for use during the day. This equipment is also compatible with equipment currently in use at the Police Department. Staff recommends approval. GR A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR THE CITY MANAGER'S DESIGNEE TO PURCHASE MOTOROLA MOBILE COMPUTERS THROUGH AN ESTABLISHED INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of Texas and as such is empowered by the Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102 to enter into a Cooperative Purchasing Program Agreement with other qualified entities in the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative H- GACBuy is a qualified purchasing cooperative program as authorized by Section 271.102 of the Texas Local Government Code; and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas has established an Interlocal Agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) and wishes to use established contracts meeting all State of Texas bidding requirements; and WHEREAS, the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) has established a contract with Motorola Solutions, Inc., contract #RA01 -08, for Motorola Mobile Workstations; and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine's Police Department is in need to replace existing older technology and will ensure that officers are using state of the art equipment that increases safety and efficiency. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase of Motorola Mobile Workstations through an Interlocal Agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (H- GACBuy) for $62,836.80. Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps necessary to consummate the purchase of said products and services. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 15th day of November, 2011.
