HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Building Inspection ServicesMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 1, 2022 SUBJECT: ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR THIRD PARTY BUILDING INSPECTION SERVICES RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for an annual contract for third party building inspection services with Safebuilt for the Building Services Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Building Services Department) for an annual estimated amount of $120,000. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this contract is to establish fixed annual pricing for third party building inspection services for residential, hotel/motel, and multi- family structures. Employee recruitment has been difficult in all sectors over the past two years. Employees for jobs in construction -related industries have been particularly difficult to fill as Texas has been experiencing unprecedented growth and development. Despite efforts to be sure our jobs are within the market range and offering hiring bonuses, some jobs remain difficult to fill and it is impacting our ability to provide timely services. In order to meet the needs of our community, until the market cools off, we are recommending a third party service to provide building inspection services. This service has been used successfully in other cities and will be used on an as -needed basis. Purchases will be made in accordance with an existing Interlocal Cooperative Agreement with the City of Keller, Texas as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271 and Texas Government Code, Section 791. The City of Keller, Texas petitioned bids for RFP 18-32, Annual Contract for Third Party Building Inspection Services. Based on evaluations by the City of Keller, Safebuilt was awarded the contract. The contract contains no renewal options. Staff recommends approval. DD/LW
