FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 20, 2022
SUBJECT: TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT, PRODUCTS, SERVICES AND
SOFTWARE SUPPORT SERVICES
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of technology
equipment, products, services, and software support services with
Waypoint and network switches from ePlus for the data center.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Projects Fund for an estimated amount
of $1,473,755.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to replace aging end of life server hardware in the Public
Safety Data Center with Nutanix hardware for the virtual environment at
the Public Safety Building. The server hardware will be placed at two
locations and provide additional connectivity to the City's IT disaster
recovery location. This purchase also includes replacing aging end of life
Cisco network switches for various city buildings. The network switches
will provide up-to-date network connectivity to the City's network for the
workstations, printers, and phones inside the buildings.
This purchase will be made in accordance with existing interlocal
agreements with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buy
Board) and Region VIII Education Service Center known as The Interlocal
Purchasing System (TIPS) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code,
Chapter 271 and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
Waypoint and ePlus Inc. The IT Department and Purchasing staff
reviewed the contract for departmental specification compliance and
pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best product
and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
