DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, February 20, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bessie Mitchell Meeting Facility, 411 Ball Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: John Fox Roy Robertson Jeff Kirkhuff Lisa Haines Ruth Nichol Craig Neill Molly King Shane Wilbanks Mark Born Linda Dobbs Willis Gina Dutcher Absent: Larry Atchley Barbara Johnson Robert Brunson Staff: Doug Evans Joe Moore Kelly Allensworth Brian Roberson Karla Turner Beulah Prince Visitor: Rich Wenger The meeting was called to order at 7.03 p.m. A motion was made by Craig Neill and seconded by Lisa Haines to approve the minutes of the January 16, 1997 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. A. Discussion of rules associated with the use of the Senior Citizens Center Kelly Allensworth introduced Brian Roberson, Recreation Supervisor. Brian introduced Karla Turner and Beulah Prince with the Grapevine Senior Citizens Center. Brian explained how policies and procedures for the Senior Center are developed. The guidelines were primarily adopted from the Greater Tarrant County Senior Services Program. Allowance of guns in the Center was discussed and will be researched as to the legality. Disciplinary procedures for all centers were discussed. Comments will be received and the policies brought back at a later date. B. Discussion of improvements to Oak Grove Baseball Park, Glade Crossing Park and C.J. Hutchins Park Doug Evans gave an overview of the construction playground plans for Oak Grove Baseball, C.J. Hutchins, and Glade Crossing. Doug went on to explain that the proposed sidewalks plan is to use surplus funds left over from construction of the playgrounds. The entire project will be phased in depending on money available. C. Main Street Days Doug Evans passed around a sign-up sheet for slots during Main Street Days. Kelly explained Recreation's roll in the games at Main Street Days, such as Grapevine Gallop, Disc Golf, etc. REPORTS A. Trail Projects - Doug explained the State Highway 26 progress report. The Lake Grapevine Trail Project report was also given by Doug. B. Pool/Trail Project - Doug reported that the School Board accepted the proposal from the City for the 2.96 acres to build a South Grapevine swimming pool. C. Casey's Clubhouse update - An auction was held on March 1 st and there will be another auction on March 16th at Lincoln Vineyard Apartments, Southlake Rotary Gala on April 5th. D. Community Activities Center - Kelly reported that CAC membership is currently at 7,082 individuals, 520 family memberships and 44 business owners. There is an average of 350 members visiting per day. A total of 1,889 have gone through the fitness orientation. Staff is looking at lowering the temperature settings in the gym and track area. MISCELLANEOUS BOARD ITEMS Roy inquired if there is an erosion ordinance at Horseshoe Trails Park. NEW BUSINESS A. Review initial concent of concession/restroom building for the South Grapevine pool Staff will present the initial concept plans prepared by Schrickel & Rollins of the concession/restroom building to the Board. B. Review and discuss elements of Main Street Days promotional booth The Board and staff will discuss what displays should go in the booth as well as additional promotional material.
