DIREC10JR OF PARKS AND RECREATION V. OLD BUSINESS A. Presentation by Jim Post of Schrickel & Rollins on South Grapevine Swimming Pool plans The latest plans for the swimming pools and buildings will be presented to the Board by Jim Post of Schrickel & Rollins. VI. A. Consideration of a Request from the McCracken Family for the Adopt -A -Road Program for Kimball Road The application from the McCracken family is attached for review. The Board might want to discuss the length of the road that is being requested for adoption. CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, March 20, 1997 at 7:12 p.m. at City Hall, 200 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: Robert Brunson Craig Neill Larry Atchley Lisa Haines Absent: Roy Robertson Mark Born Gina Dutcher Molly King Staff: Joe Moore Visitor: Cathy Brunson Ruth Nichol Linda Dobbs Willis Barbara Johnson John Fox Jeff Kirkhuff Shane Wilbanks Kelly Allensworth The meeting was called to order at 7:.12 p.m. An invocation as given by Larry Atchley. A motion was made by Lisa Haines to amend the February minutes to state that Mark Born suggested bringing back the non-resident fee for youth associations, particularly soccer. A motion was made by Lisa Haines and seconded by Linda Dobbs Willis to approve the minutes of the February 20, 1997 meeting as amended.. The motion passed unanimously. Citizen Requests Shane Wilbanks, Gina Dutcher, Doug Evans and Molly King have an excused absence for this meeting. New Business A. Review initial concept of concessions/restroom building for the South Grapevine Pool Joe Moore presented a rendering of the concept plan for the South Grapevine pool. Comments: Has pool staff reviewed plans? Has a panic button been considered? An ice machine needs to be installed. There needs to be a bench for the dressing areas and hooks. A motion was made by Robert Brunson and seconded by Craig Neill to accept the initial concept plan of the concession/restroom building for the South Grapevine pool. B. Review and discuss elements of Main Street Days promotional booth It was suggested that the booth have something to get people in, i.e. cuzzies. Also, a better map of the Parks/Master Plan map is needed, such as a black and white map with colored parks. This could show facility amenities on the back of the map. Trail maps and the new trail system need to be distributed. Adopt -A -Road sign information with a map showing roads already taken could be handed out. Joe Moore suggested that Casey's Clubhouse be printed on cuzzies. The suggestion box should be on the table for citizen input. It was suggested to have a City Council representative at the booth. Also offer information on the natatorium, such as hours of operation. The booth could be decorated with banners, fringe and balloons. REPORTS A. Trail Projects Soccer construction began on Monday for Lake Grapevine Trail. The City purchased several acres between Parr Park and Pool Road. An Eagle Scout has developed a hiking trail at the golf course. Schrickel, Rollins, & Assoc. will address a trail to connect Hazy Meadows and the South Grapevine Pool. B. Casey's Clubhouse Approximately $140,000 has been raised so far. On March 16th, Lincoln Vineyard Apartments had a silent auction which raised $1,200. Delaney Vineyards raised $14,000 on March 1st. April 5.. 1997 will be the next date for a fundraiser. It is a $100 plate Gala Affair with a silent auction at the Garriott Solana put on by Metroport Rotary. The Outback Fire Dept. and Police Dept. are coordinating a fundraiser. Time is limited to purchase a brick. C. Community Activities Center Lisa Haines stated that the T.A.A.F. Boys State Basketball Tournament was run very professionally. Staff worked long hours and Kelly "nipped crowd control in the bud" by bringing in security ahead of time. It was a "class act". Barbara stated that staff did a wonderful job. Patrons were nice and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. D. Landscaping Project Pool Road will have 140 trees installed. Highway 26 is under review by TXDOT. Lisa stated that the City is spraying to kill vegetation. She wanted it to go on record that a weedeater should be used. Joe Moore stressed that we cannot afford to weedeat everywhere. "I oppose that action" of the spraying program. Lisa sees dead brown vegetation from possibly over spraying. Joe Moore explained the program. Barbara suggested a citizen program to mow grass. MISCELLANEOUS BOARD ITEMS It was suggested that post & cable be put on Corp property to keep people off at Snakey Lane. Bags of dead animals are being dumped in the lake off Silvercrest. A motion was made by Craig Neill and seconded by Lisa Haines to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously and meeting adjourned at 9:03 P.M.
